remove spoiler -> replacing led light?
I need to replace me LED light on the spoiler but need to remove the spoiler of course, does anyone know simply how to properly do this. I just dont wanna break any of the rubber **** or something else while removing the spoiler. Thanks
i guess i could try a small ratchett. though there is some rust around the pillars of the spoiler on the trunk thats just getting worse every month, i was going to take the spoiler off and repaint the trunk. its not really a big deal though i guess. was thinking 2 birds 1 stone. but if its kinda a pain i wont bother.
well its up to you but i wouldnt personally remove the spoiler just to do something like replace the led bar. pretty sure you just unplug it from inside and pull it out through the outside.
but to remove the spoiler:
its held in by those nuts on the middle mounting points. the mounting points on the outside edge are plastic clips and double sided tape. the ones with the studs and nuts are also double sided taped. youll have to cut through the double side tape but also not cut through the clips. i used floss or yarn, and then a trim removal tool to pop the clips out.

what kinda ****ing angled screw driver i have one thats way too big waaay to big.
i think i might take a phillips head. and put it in a wrench/alligator teeth one. and use that to turn the screws. innovation!

not to ressurect an old thread from the grave, but why don't you just use a 1/4th open end wrench and a Philips bit like one shown in the picture?
1/4th will grab the bit perfectly, and just twist with one hand and hold the bit up with one finger..
anyway i couldn't find any LED strips at the junkyard, so now i'm wondering who actually bought one from spoilerlights.com or whatever and successfully installed it?
do you have to rip the plug off the old strip and splice it with the generic wire? how does it work?

honestly I kinda wish this was in the HOW to's with pics. Would be nice for those wishing to replace OEM spoiler for whatever reason or putting in the ID one. My stock spoiler is loose and I tried looking up into the trunk lid but I couldn't locate the mounting screws. Guess I'll have to live with the rattle. :[
I installed a clear one from spoilerlights.com, but I had the spoiler off to fix the plastic clips at the time. The universal led's need to be modified. I had a 4 tab so I removed the 2 middle tabs and used self tapping screws for the outer holes. I think I used a bit of double sided tape too. Come to think of it, double sided tape would hold it on without the screws. Wiring is easy, just 2 wires to splice in. I am back to stock now, however. I replaced the phillips screws with 10mm bolts. Now I can take the light off with a ratcheting wrench while the spoiler is on the car.
i want to attempt this again i havent seen those tools anywhere tho. weird. hmm. i'll see what i can figure out. if all else fails i suppose ill have to attempt to remove the spoiler. but i was cautioned to not do it because of rusted / siezed bolts etc. bah!!!
Do the 95-99 trunk lids that werent on se's still have predrilled holes for a spoiler to easily be installed? My friend is scraping his car and i need a new trunk lid but his doesnt have the spoiler and I'd like to put mine onto it. Can this be done?
