Maxima first gear question(s)

After a long weekend of work with my max I decided to take it out for a spin with my boys. We got back and the hate begun. The integra owner (95 manual) claims the the maxima has the slowest first gear of any car. I got pissed and began my research and found nothing. I'm preparing to go to the track soon and had 3 questions.
1- can anyone confirm this 1st gear thing?
2- can I beat the integra (he has headers, short shifter, intake, and ebay exhaust)
So far my mods are: highflow cat, catback exhaust, intake and warpspeed y-pipe is on the way.its a automatic
3- what are my odds against a 92 lexus gs 300 unknown miles (last owner claims it was rebuilt but 300k miles on body) just an intake. It has an inline 6.
I know the only way to find out is to race no need for that statement.

That guys on crack. A good maxima can wax any car up to 370z. Race him and find out. If I was you my next mod would be a 5 speed swap. A 5 speed maxima puts you in the seat when u get on the gas

even if the teggy is rocking the b18c1 he only has 170 stock hp and a laughable 128ft/lbs of torque, if you let that stir fry loud mouth with that fart can beat you imma come take your man card. lol
(no offense to him of course)

*edit
i have a 97 se 5 spd and mine will hold you to the seat till either the end of 4th gear or until you let outta it, but then again mine isnt stock at all

You said NOTHING important about the integra (GS/LS or GS-R)

That's kind of the deciding factor there.... Since this is a silly thread I won't go any further, I don't know why you won't just find out for your own sake.

GS300 is much, much heavier than your car making less power overall (With your mods I'm taking into consideration), think about it....

Actually I take it back, that GS300 is gonna whoop your @$$ you know why?

I agree on this but i look at my maxima for what it is, soon as i bought it everyone started talking crap about how the teg would get beat and how the lexus would have trouble keeping up. The thing is i just bought this one and ive been saving since i sold my monte carlo back in feb. So if i was into a whole racing thing i could turn my max into a monster but that not the image im going for. I just wanted to buy my car and be happy with it because like i said in a thread ago its not just gonna be me driving this car my mom will be too and i refuse to put anything into my car and have her not knowing what to expect and destroy my car but mainly kill her.

I've beaten a 350z w/ my 4AT max [no mods, though he stopped trying at 60mph when I had a car length over him]... of course my stock exhaust had separated shortly before this so I was running with just the y-pipe, past a police station, late at night, the police just sat there and watched me whoop him [some areas are like that around here as long as you pose no real threat to anyone]...

As for first gear, with my auto yes it's a bit sluggish in first, but as soon as second gear kicks in you gain ground fast...

Conidering your 4AT, you have a higher 1st gear ratio than most 5 speeds and the inherent slip associated with a torque converter, so your launch will be missing some punch. So yeah, YOUR 1st gear is lacking in relation to many. Meet him at the track, or whatever is the safest public place if you must, and find out for your self.

its unfair cuz he has a 5 spd and u dont. However, u shd be able to hold ground with him with the AT. the max has much more low end torque, but the fact that u cant launch yurself will hurt

OP should be able to launch without losing traction as easily as a 5MT. With some experience, an AT does have some advantages on the track (or street). Your torque (multiplied by the TC) should make up for the higher ratio, so its not a total loss. From what I gather the VQ makes more power (torque) over like 4K.

Pull up next to him, turn overdrive off, drop the gearshift into "1" hold your left foot all the way on the brake and your right foot all the way on the gas. When you guys start the race (by honking or someone flagging etc). Take your left foot off the brake. It'll launch pretty hard. Just shift when you get to 6200 rpms or so. If you launch like this you'll beat pretty much any Honda off the line 5speed or not. Unless they have some serious mods under the hood they'll be riding your bumper through the finish. Just because your Maxima is an auto doesn't mean it's to be underestimated.

Well it all depends on what condition your car is in. We have some maximas here in houston that try to race their autos and they slow as hell. There is only 4 maximas out of everybody that i have met actually has a maxima that is quick for what they have. When i had my auto 4gen i was barely beating single cam hondas lol. After that all i had was 5speed maximas thats when i was up in the b series honda level lol ive raced so many hondas that i know what i can beat and cant beat. You just have to learn at what roll your maxima is good at. But on a side note he might beat you after 115mph when your speed limiter hits lol. Now that my max is 3.5 and 5speed aint no b series honda can touch me unless its almost fully built or has some sort of forced induction. You will learn what you can beat and cant from racing everybody and they momas lol but good luck to you and i realy hope you beat him.

Maxima's are quick for what they are......98' family sedans. Comparing them to RWD sports cars with 50-70 more WHP is stupid. Night and day difference.

The races are gonna be quarter mile races. my car is in excellent shape right now, what about me vs the lexus gs300 thats the main race im doing. i think it has a misfire somewhere seeing s how all his spark plugs were abyss black when he changed em and he has some electric issues as well as 300k on the body and possible on the engine and transmission if the previous owener really didnt get his engine and transmission rebuilt and he has just a off brand intake but its connected my the adapter piece its not a full intake. thanks for the info

thanks,
i looked up 0-60 times against the gs300 and the time difference is very small but the max's faster. same for 1/4 miles times and we are doing a 1/4 mile race. i have more performance done to my car he has just an intake and there are some problems with his car. i think its gonna be a pretty good one we are expected to race soon and i will post vid of it.

What about a WRX? You're the only one that has mentioned a Subaru or even an AWD vehical in this thread.

OP is trying to race an Integra and a GS300 not a WRX.

That's what he tells himself whenever he loses a race, it's because "blah blah blah"... it's because of the 6mt gears are so short "blah blah blah"

WRX = Japanese for SLOW!! Unless it's the current ones, the current ones can boogie pretty damn hard.

Sidenote: WRX's can easily (and are commonly) modded to be STi killers, but those 5mt drivetrains are made from glass.
