got rid of the maxima....now what?

Well here it goes, after driving a bmw m3, and other cars that were 5 spd and faster then mine I decided to make a change. I know I have only had this car for about 3 months but I need a 5 spd and something more to suit a 16 year old. I have made a deal with my mom, where I still had a few grand to pay off...that I traded her my 99 maxima for her 99 honda accord, I know what your thinking, but I still had like 5 grand to pay off on my car and I am tired of payments. In this case I get the accord with no payments, and I am selling it. Kbb and nada says the value is $12,950. So I am hoping to get a minimum of about $12k for it. I have started to look at a few cars, and have come down to these:

1. VW GTI VR6
2. BMW 325 or 328 ci
3. Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS

These all seem to be in my price range, and can easily be found in a 5 spd in good condition. I know I have let a lot of you down, and hope you understand I just need something more sportier like I said and 5 spd. The maxima is more then nice for me but I am 16 and want something that will make my back hurt from driving it etc. If anyone wants to give me any input please do, or give me an idea of a car that you think I should be interested in. Also, I will be positng new eibach springs, used cefiro kickplates for sale if anyone wants them. Also if anyone wants to trade for clear tails in the CT area I can do that as well. Since my mom is taking over I minus well put it back to stock. Thanks,

Mike

the 1.8t's i think are only 99's up, and i dont want to get into payments again...and the maxima is nice, but i want something i can have more fun with now...the gti is nice, and i was looking at neuspeeds site and advertisements for their sc, which comes with a p-chip. the sc itself it seems is no harder to install then a cai and gives about 50hp increase without an exhaust system...if i get the gti or olf and the sc from neuspeed isnt too much $ i may get it. Thanks,

Mike

Ok. the cars you listed are slow if not heavy modded. Get a 5spd max and enjoy the ride. Germans are better quality but not neccesary reliability!

if you're worried about payments, you should just get a civic and modd that then.

depending on what years he's looking at, a 328i is probably a good cometition to a Maxima

Wow. When I told you you were spoiled, I really meant it!

More suited to a 16 year old? Okay here's what you do, go get a 91 Civic DX 5spd. That's a perfect car for a 16 year old. Or an 85 camry. Or a CRX HF. Or a Toyota corolla. An '86 Ford Taurus. A 91 Ford Escort. 16 year olds get in lots of accidents, that is definitely a statistical fact, so you should probably get something slow so when you ruin it driving like the dork you apparently are, you will not ruin something expensive.

A maxima is okay for a 16 year old I guess, but they are too nice IMO. The first car anyone should have should be a bit of a beater, so they can mess it up a little.

To get back to WHY THE HECK DID YOU GET SUCH AN EXPENSIVE CAR AND ONLY KEEP IT 3 MONTHS?! And you're on this board too...why?

a co-wroker of mine has a 1996 VW, and while they are well engineered, his appears to have alot of "little problems".

Like -
Spedometer broken
Windows Seals coming off
Leak in trunk
Brake Caliper came off!
Goes through lots of brakes

etc...etc...no major mechanical problem (except the caliper), but from what I've seen with his car, I wouldn't buy one.

Unless it's luxury (BMW, Mercedes, etc...) I wouldn't buy Europian.

It's "I might as well". I agree with Lime, get something cheap. I started out with a 90 Accord, it was perfect for me at the time. Get something nice and cheap, save your money, and when you're 18 you can buy something really sweet.

daym Lime, you're really coming off on him hard, lol
I think if you have a chance to get something nice, go ahead and get it, if "you" can afford it. At 16, I was pimpin' in this:
http://wsphotofews.excite.com/027/pF/Tc/Au/rW53485.jpg
1987 Mercury Sable GS car who's bluebook value is probably around 50 bucks now
The smart thing to do would be put off the $, you will later need. (something I admit, I was too stupid to do).

What didn't you like about the Maxima? If it was the payments and the auto tranny, just get a 95-96 Max with a 5spd, shouldn't run you more then 7-8 grand.

All those cars are pretty nice, however, depending on the year, they can very well cost as much as your max. But I don't think that "Car for a 16 year old" **** applies here... I am against 16 year olds driving Mustangs and Camaros or seriously fast cars.. that is why a lot of them have Civics hehehe.. something decent, reliable and safe is good enough. If you can do it, then why not.

Haha there's Erica for you...Im sorry I work 2 jobs and also detail cars on the side to pay for my car and hobby, and that I saved all my $ since I was small while others were wasting it on useless ****...anyways I will probobaly get a gti or a 325 or 328 bmw, all depends what drives better etc. I was looking at companies for bmw but they are expensive as all hell, hamann and all those I mean a catback is close to a grand, but companies for vw like neuspeeed or not so much better. And me going from a 99 max se limited to a mercury sable or honda civic would be a big step Im not willing to take. So far no accidents etc and don't plan on having any, I dont drink or do drugs or fuc* around on the road like other people I know. Tomorrow I will let everyone know how it goes with the gti's, and I plan on just driving around the northern part of CT where there are alot of car dealerships but smaller meaning maybe better price then if I go to a big one. Thanks for all the input and I will keep everyone updated.

hahahahaha. Still living at home...mom and dad pay for everything. GOod luck paying for insurance...oh wait I bet your parents pay for that too!

BMW ... I can just see the post now (although why you'd post here I don't know), "Smashed my bimmer in the snow!"

lol!

16 and a 99 Maxima is lucky and/or spoiled, but at least maximas are pretty safe and not as fast as camaros and such. I say get a slow car and learn to know the way people act on the road before you go trying to predict them and control a fast car. Although the 1.8T's aren't very fast, so you're okay haha. Again, take it to some other board if you're not getting a nissan heh.

Limemax dont own me..i own her ...anyways I dont know what I will do yet, if anything I might not even buy a car but rather an old vw beetle or mustang and restore it, and at the same time do custom things with it. Now that I have more options it is a possibility. I have been thinking about this too much today, need to get some sleep and dwell upon this more tomorrow.

How about this, you buy the nicest car you can possibly afford and the fastest and least safe one, just so you can **** off Lime even more.. It's fun reading her flame you

Another thing for you to consider, Reliability... VWs, Subies and BMWs are all probably less reliable then a Maxima, Then consider the cost of repairs for VWs and Bimmers.... Just a thought.

Hey, I'm 16 and I drive my mom's old maxima. Too bad it's an early 3rd gen GXE and my mom treated it like ****. I'm not fully against 16 year old drivin fast cars, just remember, your insurance is gonna be through the roof if you get a newer, more expensive car. I have the offer of getting a 2k1 GLE for $5k. It's almost too good to be true. It is. While my friend can actually give me the car, and I have the money to pay for it, the insurance will be like $5k+ a year. It'll break my bank account. All of a sudden I'll be worrying more about keeping my car than college or useful things that I need (a computer, etc...). I wouldn't go as low as a civic so you can "fit the 16 year old stereotype", but don't rush out to buy a brand new sports car. Suggestions? Here's what I'm planning on getting in the summer:

1) 87-93 Ford Mustang GT 5.0
2) 87-92 Toyota Supra
3) 86-88 Mazda RX7
4) 92-98 Nissan 240sx
5) 92-94 Nissan Maxima SE

While some are hard to find (Supra and rx7), they're all around $5k-$6k each and have loads of potential. If I were you, I'd try and get a 240sx. They're nice little sports cars, and with the right mods, they'll knock the wind out of you. My friend is doing what you're planning on doing. He has put every last penny into his truck. Sound system, engine upgrades, mods that cost as much as some cars, you name it. And one day his dad asked him, "you know, you've saved up so much money and put it all in that truck, and look at it. It's still just a truck. It gets you from point A to point B. Why do you need a sound system that makes your eyeballs rattle (it really does. It's sweet), why do you need all this stuff? One day that trucks gonna get old, and your gonna get rid of it, and you're finally gonna realize that it was just a money pit." It really got me thinkin.

Just get something that you enjoy. That gets you where you wanna go, that's comfortable, that looks good, and that's got the power you want. Just remember, you pour all your money into a car, it's still always just gonna be a car.

well i will prob not get the golf, gti or jetta b/c all the ones ican afford are the 4 banger 8v's..an i can afford a few vr6's but too much $ for a car like that and insurance too high. Right now I am leaning toward prob a 95 or so 325ci or something like that, even though many people have moded them they are still a step up for me especially if it is a 5 spd, and I can still enjoy the luxury but with more power and more sporty feeling...and yes i give up, lime owns me...

nissan 240 would be a good choice...

but if I was your age again (I'm only 22) I would have to go with a hybrid. Get a CRX or a civic and put a B16 or a turbo on it and enjoy owning a fast car with VERY cheap insurance. Its fun and cheap.

mustang 5.0 L= wisdom my FOOT (and you know what I wanted to say, but these younguns....)

Let's see. You too can be like the 17 year old who died last week because he drove like an idiot. Maybe you should learn to drive a crappy car for a while before you drive a fast or RWD one.

Life's unfair..or is that news to you?
You think he's spoiled for driving a '99 Maxima because you had to drive piece of crap? Just think of the kids driving BMWs, Audis, etc without paying a cent for it.

I guess at 16 he should be living on his own.

Bring it.

I test drove the Sub. RS w\ black019. It was just me and him. The sales men didn't wanna go. What a Piece of **** that car was. I revved it out in every single gear. Took it out on the freeway, went about 90 in 3rd gear at 7000rpm's. It could take a beating though. Radio was complete ****. 160hp in a 5-speed was ****. Out of 10 this car gets a 2. Forget that car. One more thing, at the stop light I kept the peddle to the floor for about a minute or 2 literally. wow does it get loud! Still a POS though.

man wtf is wrong with you people, didnt you understand that mommy or daddy didnt pay for my damn car? Did any of you miss that part? Or are you blinded to much by the fact that a younger person has a car thats at the same level as you. While other people waste their $ on drugs, clothes and other **** I saved. And now I still work 2 jobs and also detail cars which barely lets me make payments on the car as is. So thats why I am getting rid of it to stop this paymetn ****...I asked for an opinion on which car I should be thinking about next not whether or not you think I should have a nice car or not...Just ****es me off when asssholes like you dont understand the simple concept of earning, saving and then buying a nice car.
