Hello,

In my 95, when it is cold, i'm getting a diferent kind of problem...

My '95 maxima VQ30, is making noisings (toc toc toc) on cold starts.... Looks like rod noise... after 10 seconds, everything ok....

I'm using 10w30 as the manual recommends... But I think this was not a good choice to the engine due our temperature in Brazil...
Where I live, some times, temperature reaches 50F.... and some times 70F.... (in the morning)....

Sorry use this topic, but Please, what type of oil should I use?
Is it a good a idea, change to 20w50?

Thanks,
Bruno

Don't know how you even think this is in any way tranny related

OP check for a intake leak around where the plenum meets the LIM, it sounds like you have worn out gaskets they tend to thin out after the years. The reason it gets better when it gets hot is because the gaskets expand after they get hot like any other metal.

In the USA we generally run 5W30 or 10W30. Sounds like your oil filter doesn't have a anti drain back valve. Try another brand filter because I think yours is emptying out.

Hmmm, might be bad/clogged cats! What code is it exactly for the O2 sensor? Also, how many miles on the cats, if originals how many miles on the car?

i changed the one after the y pipe with a magnaflow a few months ago. the other 2 im not sure when they were dont and the car just rolled 445,000 the other night on my way to work. i tested the 02 sensor and the sensor is good the headed part of it is bad i guess.

Oh wow 445k miles!?

Ok so your throwing a heater circuit for your O2 sensor that shouldn't cause anything performance wise. It is the downstream sensor right? The heater circuit is basically just a resisitor you can simulate it if you want with a resistor I'm not sure what value though.

It may be your precats. If you are mechanically inclined remove them and gut them and see if that helps.

Also, did you check for leaks at the plenum. I think you can spray some hair spray around where the plenum meets the LIM and see if it revs up like crazy then you have a leak, but you have to test it while its cold just like when it has the problem.

455k im sory lol, yeah i have done that with brake clean while it was hot and cold. i know that cats are starting to get plugged up because when i stick my foot in it i get a bad rotten egg smell. but im going to fix the cat problem with a warpspeed y pipe this summer coming up

Possibly completely unrelated (im like halfway out right now from my medicine), but I had a similar "surging in park when cold" problem 2 years ago and my IACV was on its last leg.
