crankshaft position sensor bypass

Is it posible to bypass the crankshaft position sensor the POS not the REF? If so how? I have messed the teeth up on mine while trying to hold the flywheel while removing crankshaft pulley bolt. Since it is getting cold I would like to pull the trans in spring to change it out. I have a 97 auto.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Can't bypass it as it's one of the most important sensors related directly to the ignition timing.
If you're saying you messed up your flywheel, you're kinda stuck unless you have a few days of good weather or a garage to work in.
If it's just the POS sensor then replace it, just takes a couple minutes. I clean mine quarterly to be sure I don't run into bucking issues again like I've had in the past from metal shavings collecting on the sensor.

This was honestly the same conclusion I had come to myself but just decided I would ask knowing that the people on here that respond to questions are usually super smart.
Thank you all for contributing to the best forum I have ever read on.

Not sure if your read my thread about my car not starting but it was all 3 of my sensors both cranks and the cam sensors.

What ever you do don't buy new ones from autozone. The duralast brand didn't work in my car.

POS not sitting flush

Just got a used crankshaft position sensor from junk yard.

pulled the old one out and now can’t seem to sit the new(used) one into the hole flush with the bell housing…

did the fly wheel turn? Easy fix?

There is nothing in that hole to interfere with the sensor fitting. I just had mine out... and it slid right back in.

I just changed my crankshaft position sensor in my 2005 nissan maxima and you have to hold the rubber ring goes around the opening where you slide the o2 sensor into while you push the sensor into position. Cause if you dont that rubber piece starts to go into hole with the sensor and then you cant get sensor in all the way. Hold rubber ring tight against the outer part of unit and slide sensor in and push it flush till nut hole lines up and then put your bolt back in and tighten up.

".....where you slide the o2 sensor into...."?
What does the o2 sensor have to do with the crank sensor?
There are no o-rings on the crank sensor I took out, and there are none on o2 sensors, either.

sorry haven’t been in here lately.

I agree, the o2 sensor is completely separate.

think he’s saying the rubber square piece attached to the port where crank sensor goes.

however, the junk yard car had a metal bracket between sensor and rubber manifold, vs my ‘99maxi didn’t have the metal bracket between….. I didn’t grab the bracket from junk yard… so I think there’s a gap in sensor-manifold

The crank sensor on the rear of the engine.... near the flywheel... had no rubber grommet or anything, that I could tell.

I pulled it out, slid the new one in... as far as I could tell, it felt like it seated right up against the housing... wasn't held off by anything.
