weird smell coming from outside car
There is a weird smell I get from my 1997 maxima (only from outside the car) after going higher speeds but doesn't happen when driving normally. It almost smells like burning rubber or wiring but I don't think its the tires because I dont usually peel off but when I do i can smell it from inside the cabin. could this actually be from the tires or possibly burning oil? or is this another issue because I don't actually notice until I get out of the car? My car is a little low on coolant but the gauge says its at regular operating temperatures and never overheats. I have a check engine light for a oxygen sensor but most 4th gens have that for being around 25 years old what do you guys think?

Check out another thread that's current https://maxima.org/forums/4th-genera...ity-issue.html
And I'm sure there are many relevant threads if you care to search.
I too have oil leaks. Put them on your To Do List but don't let them keep you up at night . All things considered, we have bigger problems
Being "low on coolant" is not a small thing. If you mean that your overflow reservoir is not at "max" that's okay. The overflow changes depending on temperature. But if you take your radiator cap off and there's a whole bunch of space in there that is a big problem. Edit: don't take the cap off hot or you will be burned.

Check coolant level like 90swheels said.
also monitor coolant level. Check around the radiator for leaks
Also please touch the center of each wheel after a long drive. A hot one indicates a sticking caliper.
Use your nose. Does the smell come from the front or the back.
A worn oxygen sensor can result in burning too much gasoline. It's cheaper to replace the sensor in the long run.
