Negatives of having a rear sway bar
I have a rear sway bar on my car for a number of years and actually forgot what it feels like not to have one. Was considering removing it at some time. What are some of the drawbacks of having one? I read numerous advantages, but at one time, there was a thread awhile back highlighting some of the negatives but I cannot located it. Any suggestions?

Added un-sprung weight
Added binding in the rear suspension causes the ride to suffer a bit
Less feedback of when the rear end is ready to let go. Plenty of accidents document this.
Those are 3 off the top of my head.

My passengers in the back seats did mention the suspension felt a bit stiffer (less smooth and forgiving) over bumps and highway cracks, but the positives are much greater plus I seldomly have others in the car.
The only downside I see to a rear swaybar is throttle lift oversteer if it's set up too stiff. In most cases, you can power out of throttle lift oversteer in a front drive car. It's relatively easy to figure out to do once you practice it a few times, in an open area without the risk of hitting anything.
Installed one on my Maxima a couple months ago, not difficult really, only took about 30 mins w/ hand tools and I didn't bother with raising the rear end off the ground (stock height).

Loving the difference it made to the handling.

I have a progress rear sway bar sitting in my warehouse for over a year. I have all the hardware for it and everything. If anyone wants it, pm me.
The difference is noticeable when you install it and remove it. It's much better to have one!!

I'm on my 2nd 4th gen now and this time around I'm not doing the RSB. Just doing H&R, Tokicos and an FSTB.Alot of people don't realize that the maxima has an OEM rsb built into the beam. Not only that, but the front track is wider than the rear track, promotong oversteer. When you add the aftermarket RSB, the oversteer gets too hot, even on its mildest setting.

Many different factors have to be considered for producing a well balanced suspension on a car. Spring rates, shock rebound and compression, tire pressures, and matching tires front and rear, etc... Ask anyone that owns a high performance motorcycle or even a mountain bike about proper suspension setup. I've seen cars with improperly set up suspensions get smashed and crashed. Here's a video i found of the perfect example of that.
Should have aimed towards the outside lane while braking, instead he turned in while braking and because racecar you get oversteer and plow into that pillar.
BTW your point is very valid still... Just the video illustrates driver error.
A lot of those are due to driving, but some are suspension related (a lot of those cars are riding on stock suspenion w/ the extra weight of decoration and roll cages even though they've been gutted)

Double Post? Problem?
This video is better, this illustrates slick conditons + old torn up suspension setups
The dark green Z that's a dinosaur is my friend's team btw.
Man... I really want to go back to MSR now....

I've had my RSB on for about 3-4 years and have yet to experience any lift-throttle oversteer or less rear grip. I auto-x the bejeesus out of my car and have only had the rear end come around a little bit once in the rain but I caught it easily enough. My car feels as stable as can be, and I have the RSB set to full stiff.
If anything I would like my rear end to be even stiffer to make the car more neutral.

you'll find plenty of oversteer.
