1999 max with code p1320

Ok I dont mean to be making useless threads but every thread I find is from 2000 maxima my car has code p1320 and shudders at idle and while driving but my car also has a knock sensor code as well even tho for the 2000 maxima it was the coils for the 99 are the coilpacks still as crappy? It has 133k miles on it

P1320 is a primary ignition fault. A bad knock or crank position sensor can also cause a 1320. Replace your knock sensor, clear the codes, and see what happens after that. Gotta take it one step at a time.

Just bought a 1997 max with same exact codes... replaced knock sensor with cheap ebay unit and tested each coil with ohm meter, found the faulty coil and replaced it. Runs great now, more power and no CEL!

My 99 is doing the same thing. First I started with a cylinder code, replaced the coil and now get the 1320 code. I told the place where I bought the coil and they gave me a new one. Now I am getting the sputtering or misfire again. I am not sure if it is the coil causing all my issue or the crank/cam position sensor. Let me know how it goes for you. The knock sensor on mine went out a year or two ago and it wasn't bad fix at all, I would get the part on ebay if I were you. Because the 1320 has like 4 possible scenarios I am taking mine into a mechanic to pin point the issue.

P1320 points to the primary ignition signal, the ECU or low voltage side of the ECU.
It has nothing to do with the Knock Sensor.
The Knock Sensor code tends to come up along with other ignition or emission related codes but doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. In fact it's the last thing you should check or replace only after you've cleared the other trouble codes.

P1320 - Check the condenser & ignition coils, low voltage side not the spark plug. Make sure the connections are tight and no prongs are bent. Also check for any corrosion on the electrical connections. If your lucky, you'll get the associated cylinder misfire code which will help id which coil is acting up.

Once the P1320 has been fixed, clear any stored error codes and check for the Knock Sensor code in about a week. Chances are it won't show up again, if it does, replace the KS as well.

Any resistance other than zero. If its zero, then the coil is faulty cause its open circuit.

you have a 99, its most likely the coils. They are notorious for premature failure. Its well documented here on the org. Get coils from a previous year max.

So are you '99 or '00? The '99 has crap coils, don't know about '00.

Could go both ways. An internal short would show low resistance (0). An open circuit would show an infinite reading(--).
