Do you like it?
Any bad things that go along with it?
could you feel the gain?
what area did your car benefit most from it (low end etc)?
trying to find someone close to my car

None of the ECU upgrades for the Max are worth the money. My friend got a superchip for like $220ish and it added about 30HP. The ECU's for the Maxi are at least twice that much and add like 10-15HP. Woohoo.

It seems that every mod for the Max has less results versus other cars...stupid VQ is just too damn good.

I dont know much about the UPRD ECU, but the JWT ECU works great on my 97 maxima. This has been my favorite modification to my car. Every once in a while I put my stock ECU back in to see how the car responds and the car becomes so sluggish. My car is much more fun to drive with the moddified ECU. I only wish I had a 95/96 Maxima to reap the full benefits of it.

Go for the JWT ECU >>>>>>>

I installed one in my 1995 SE Auot and immediately felt a big difference just from that MOD Alone !!!! Using a VERICOM perfomance computer I measured about a 12 FWHP gain which translate to about a 15-17 Crank Hp gain, with the JWT Chip, Y-pipe and homemade BOBO intake my car made 175 rwhp on the dyno and 193 RWTorque. Get the JWT ECU you will NOT be disappointed.

the JWT can do so much more than what we use it for.. the best thing to do is do what papasmurf did.. get the bigger injectors.. get the other stuff.. and have the reprogram it for that..

The Thing Is...

JWT = $600+
G Force = $300+

However the JWT is programmed especially for your specific car. The G Force is a more universal ECU (not car-specific). If you have numerous engine mods the JWT is much more useful.

Man, it's too bad our Max's can't just swap out a chip like some can--I think prices would be a lot more reasonable. Taking out the ECU and sending it in is a pain. At least it sounds like with JWT you can also buy it, and send in your stock ECU later (with Core charge) but at $600, that is too damn much! I think JWT would be better off pricing it at $300 and selling three times as many... Reprogramming surely can't be THAT labor intensive can it? If you are talking 10-15hp gain, I think most would find no more than $400 reasonable.

I believe there has been group deals for JWT ECU's for $465,which isnt that bad of a price. Contact Paul from Avalon Racing, they have pretty good prices. If you want to avoid downtime, purchase a 95/96 fed spec ECU from a local junkyard and have that one moddified. Its well worth it.

no.. JWT has full potential to trick the computer anyway they want.. so you could get bigger injectors.. and run bigger horsepower.. and you get the ECU to be tuned that way.. what people don't understand is.. with fuel maps and advancing the timing.. you can get 30 hp out of an ECU..

the only reason the maxima only gets 15 hp.. is because the igntion is so advance.. and its hard to advance the timing..

Are you saying that $400 for 15 hp is a bad price? I can't think of any mod for $400 that adds 15 hp (NOS + JC Whitney discount doesn't count sprite )

Sounds like a good deal to me.

I'm sure as hell willing to pay $400 for another 15 hp. I already paid $350 for a used cattman SS, why not pay another 400 for a good thick 15 hp and tq throughout the powerband and have as much power as a 5th gen.

Question about the bigger injectors. Where would you get bigger injectors and what size would you put it up to effectivly? Also what kind of job is it to install? Would it still work good temporarily without a new ECU. I ask because JWT to my knowledge still does not make a ECU upgrade for my 98, so curious if it would help in the meantime. Just wishfull thinking really.

I have a JWT

I bought it used for $400 and I love it.. If you have a '95/96 Auto I would get a used JWT ECU before any brand Y pipe... No install fee's, no force fitting, no worry about emission testing, no rapid depreciation and no worrys of failed Y pipe in the future.. Just plug and play..

Bigger Injectors you can get from JWT.. you need NA 300ZX injectors.. how ever you will need an ECU reporgramed to compensate for the extra fuel the bigger injectors are dumping into the engine.. no it wouldn't work with a stock ECU because your engine would be flooded and you would literally stall all the time.. no one has an ECU upgrade for the 97/98/99 (except Jet says they can do it).. however the 95/96 ECU's will work with a 97 Maxima thats why the 97 owns over the 98 and 99 in the send generation of 4th Gens

Black97Max has a 95 JWT ECu for his 97.
BTW-The G-Force ECU is more then $300. The GD was over $400 as is.

Nobody that i know of i think papasmurf did this.. yeah you can run normal gas.. the ECU should compensate for the richness so you would be at normal gas mileage

Yeah I figured the ECU would have to be redone. Man, I wonder if anyone will ever make a ECU that will work with my 98. I think if the bigger injectors were in place and configured right it could help make some decent power. Oh well, maybe someday.

Why doesn't a 95-96 (and 97) ECU work with a 98 or 99 (assuming there federal spec)? Aren't the 97-99 Fed Spec cars all the same?
