Another testament to 4th Gen reliability...

Most of you probably don't remember me, but I was an active member of this board years ago. I'll suffice it to say that my maxima was stored in a garage for the past 7 years. Not started, not touched. I've been driving an X5 while she's been patiently waiting. 2 Days ago I decided it was time to get her running again.

1. New battery
2. New gas (old gas was all evaporated, I tried to siphon it)
3. New oil

And she runs great. I'm going to do a new fuel filter and alignment tomorrow and then I think I'm good to go. Pretty amazing, right? The rotors even had a coating of surface rust which quickly wore off and she brakes as well as ever.

That is pretty impressive that a battery, some gas and oil can turn over a VQ that's sat for 7years.

I agree I should have done the above but I didn't know it would be sitting that long.

The gas just... disappeared! Don't know what else to say. As far as mileage, she has 78k... is that low by today standards?

Your sig link doesn't work. I would say the mileage isn't high but I've seen a lot lower. My previous 4th gen max was bought with 50k miles on it. My "new" one has close to 200k.

oh God that's wonderful mileage! I am hard pressed to find a 4th gen under 150K on the clock and I'm looking hard!

that's weird how the gas just evaporated but after so many years i guess it makes sense. i'd be concerned about varnish left over from the gas evaporating and would definitely change fuel filter after a fresh tank of gas with some fuel injector cleaner ( i like redline si-1) through as well. this generation maxima was built very well indeed.

Makes me feel good about mine now. I would seafoam the gas tank, injection system and even the crankcase just to be sure everything is cleaned up and all the stuff that settled and built up over the years gets cleaned out.

Glad to hear it's up and running again! Any flat spots on the tires?

I hope you don't mind me asking, but I want to test my memory: didn't you once do a complete wet sanding of your car many years ago?

Good to see some familiar names. I am somewhat an OG, but you can't compare me to Jeff92SE or Sprintmax. And yes, I did wetsand my max years ago! Good memory.

Flat spots you ask? Yeah they're my main problem. Makes for a lot of vibration and a lack of comfort. I inflated the tires up to 38psi and I've been peeling out as much as possible (but it's the same damn wheel that always peels out! lol). It's gotten better but still there. Any remedies?

I've attached a small pic of her from tonight. This is a pic after I made a few 0-60 sprints on the juice (50 shot). Torque steer all the way through first gear, good times good times. Call me crazy but I couldn't wait more than 50 miles to start spraying haha.

i don't think there's much you can easily do about flat spots; maybe you could "shave" down the tires (ala in the fashion of making poor-mans slicks) on a lathe? but that seems problematic

I think new tires are a good idea - even just based on age alone. They must be pretty hard.

So you didn't know it would be sitting that long.....something tells me there's an interesting story there.....

Unfortunately not really... just got caught up with school (left the car at home), other cars were handed down to me, and mom refused to drive the thing. Now that the racing seats are gone and the car looks relatively stock she says she'll drive it, we'll see...

I have an X5 for everyday driving now and while it is much more expensive to maintain and breaks down all the time, that steering feel is just so damn good...
