RHD Maxima

has anyone ever completed a rhd conversion? i've kinda been toying with the idea of getting my hands on a cefiro if i ever had the money and converting my max to rhd to feed my new obsession.

You couldnt legally drive it unless you delivering mail, because its not old enough to qualify as a collector car yet. If anything, why not just get the Cefiro and drive it.

not true. i know a few people with rhd cars (bugeye subies and 240s) who have had absolutely no legal issues.

maxima body > cefiro body imo.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with a rhd conversion. Visibility during driving would be problematic and would get old after a while since you're not driving on the left side of the road. I have driven old English rhd cars before, and the novelty wears off pretty quick with the annoyances of not being able to see around cars while driving, navigating multi-lane intersections, drive-up atm's, etc. So you see the point i'm trying to make here. Not to mention sourcing all of the parts and having to change everything over. Waste of time if you ask me.

If you really need to get your rhd fix, take a two week vacation to England, Ireland, or Scotland and rent a car.

It wouldnt get annoying if it was a skyline GT-R......At my local performance shop I saw one of the Motorex Skyline GT-R's that I was talking about in that thread a month or so back about "importing a skyline".

you shouldnt have any problems (maybe just in CA) with it being legal to drive, becasue technically your car is already registered as a US car...

I'm usually the one that supports people doing things to maximas that are out of the ordinary ".org mod list" when other people bash them. But this time, I'm going to advise against it. The previous posts already state the main points of why its a bad idea. The money can be better spent on other cosmetic/performance/maintenance items that will make your experience driving/looking at the car much more satisfying.

But hey, if you really want to do it, don't let anyone stop you.

i for one think it'll be cool. it'll be different and fun. back in my home country i used to drive my uncle's LHD 1976 corolla 2 door(cars are rhd there) and it was fun. it was a headturner. everyone wanted to ride in it. i loved it. i used to prefer driving that instead my datsun 120y sometimes.

only thing i hated was we have to put that "left hand drive" sign on the back of the cars. thank God u guys dont have to do that here with rhd cars.

i know it's not necessarily practical by most standards, but it is different. i've never seen a maxima with an RHD swap and it would make it a lot easier to heel-toe. it's not really about the money for me, or the time spent. maximas have a relatively small aftermarket to begin with so a lot of our cars end up looking similar. a perfect example of that is the fact that we only really have stillen and ionic lip kits to choose from. well built maximas stand out amongst other cars because not many people do much with them, but in the long run, i feel like it's something that would make my car stand out within the maxima community itself.

if i had the money and the skills i would do it. finding a front clip would be easy since there's lots of cefiros back home and could get one shipped here. it would be really cool...the only rhd max in the usa.

I love the idea. Right hand drive A32 would be awesome. Though as some stated, going through drive ups, and driving on roads would be a pain. I'm sure you'd get use to it though.

Guy here in UT had a 91' Skyline GTS imported from Japan. His car was a huge head turner for it's RHD and Skylineness of course.

Yep. Know him personally. I've ridden in his car. He had it imported through the Airforce. He was stationed over in Japan for about 2 years. Bought the car over there, paid the Airforce to ship it over to the states and had it legalized.

Here is one of his many video's of it.

Was running low 13's last summer on our local track.

He isn't the only one that has one just here in Utah. There is a couple R34's out here in Utah as well.

They are rare, but not as rare as you might think.

Having been stationed in England and having shipped over my lhd truck, I can tell you it is a pia driving a vehicle where the steering wheel is On the opposite side. Biggest issue is passing trucks and big rigs! Followed by drive tru windows and toll booths.

As for importing cars with rhd, unless the vehicle you wish to import has passed dot vehicle safety crash testing, it is financially and paperwork wise a pain to get a car imported. I was looking to bring back my Nissan Primera GT rhd car and even though it is oh so similar to an Infinity G20, it wouldn't pass muster. Gotta have that DOT sticker in the door. Converting your car is a different story. Importing a car for non-street use is no problem.
