high idle after NWP spacer install
Noticed today after the install of the spacer kit that my idle is really high, about 1k-1500k. Originally when I first got it on I forgot to adjust the throttle cables which idled it at aout 6k lol but that was a quick fix. Im thinking that it might be a leaky IACV, I reused the gasket with RTV on it, but im not sure if that would necessarily cause a high idle? My next thought was a sensor I forgot to plug in. Its rainy today but with a quick look, all the IACV plugs are in and the MAF of course. My next thought was a bad throttle position sensor? I dont know why it would of gone bad though. The idle isnt steady at 1k to 1500k either. its got as high as 2k but it doesn't stay steady like a throttle cable out of position. It kind of jumps around a little bit but then again my idle has been mildy jumpy before. My EGR is clean, IACV and MAF so that isnt it. Again, high idle

sounds like your IACV, pull it out and clean it. Mine used to idle the same way in the colder months, then cleaned the IACV and its back to normal. Idles at a steady 900-1000 once warm, in neutral will idle around 600-700

yeah check literally every bolt you took out. mine had a slight leak because i couldnt get my bottom EGR bolts all the way tightened. but once i finally figured out the angle to approach them at and got them torqued down everything was fine and no more high idle.

and didnt you say that when you installed the spacers you didnt have to undo the EGR all the way, just the top 2 bolts? are you sure then that they are secured correctly? i know its not very easy to do that installation without enlarging BOTH sides of the EGRs holes. plus, make sure you didnt drop the gasket for it. which ive done once or twice too.

I wasnt aware a vaccum leak would cause such a high idle though. A rough idle yes and not starting at all yes but will check. The IACV is clean like I said in the OP the only change was the gasket was reused with RTV. I went ahead and got a new gasket and Ill put it on when it stops raining. GGenius, yea the instructions said they didnt have to mess with the bottom bolts so I knew it was possible. I just enlarged the bolts to 1/2in and they torqued down fine. I wanted to block it off while I was in there, but I had a brain fart and didnt think about getting a plate machined

yea just reused it with more RTV. It didnt idle high today though. It seems to be intermittent which is always so hard to fix. I though it was a leak but I cant figure out where it would be. Like I said, its not an unstable idle, its just a really high idle. I took the throttle cables completely off because I though I might have adjusted them wrong but when I took them off, it didnt change a thing

(oh nevermind on this sentence i misread what you just posted.)well you might just need to adjust the throttle cable a little more. if youre not an expert that can be a tricky thing to get really correct.
and i def didnt use any rvt on my egr gasket, and didnt see any there when i removed it. also did you try adjusting the screw?

yeah i edited my post once i reread what you had posted. uhh make sure that the clamp from your intake tubing isnt in the way at all you know what i mean? ive had people install CAI and have part of the clamp in the way of the throttle holding it slightly open. other than that i can only think it has to be a vacuum leak, damage IACV or TPS from you takin **** off?

I thought it would be the TPS but its not all the time, only intermittent. All the vacuum lines are on and well, just checked. The IACV could be leaking but that wouldn't cause a HIGH idle necessarily I don't think, just rough. Ill replace the gasket and see where it is. Maybe it was just the ECU adjusting to the new air flow?

Like I said, I checked all the Vacuum lines and they are attached and all new anyways so they aren't cracked. I am leaning towards the TPS because the RPM idle varies so much. its not steady, then again my idle wasn't completely steady before the spacers anyways. check intake plenum gasket for a leak. just spray gum cutter/carb cleaner at the base of the intake, a little at a time to see if the idle changes. in fact spray anywhere you took anything off/loose.

yeah also make sure the bolts that bolt your MAF up are tightened all the way. i know the caged nuts that're in the air box for the bolts are only held in place by plastic. and can end up spinning in place rather than tightening the bolts down all the way. if you know what im sayin.

RTV was a quick fix because it was 7 by the time I was done and an IACV gasket wasnt available and needed it drivable to make the hour trip back. It was a air leak and its solved. last time I ask a question

I drove my max with no exhaust, open egr, and at idle it sounded like it was cammed out so hard like a v8. Nobody wanted to mess with it. lol It was fun and sounded like a beast while it lasted. Because racecar.

goot gawd id like to hear that. Wish I could of blocked off my EGR that night but I couldnt have the plate machined fast enough and couldnt figure out another way to do it. Surprisingly enough it wasnt even mildly blocked though. When I got my y and a muffler put on the other day I heard a monte carlo with an open exhaust...in an enclosed building.

I'm glad you found it....I was sure it was an air leak....cause it didn't have a high idle before you did the NWP mod.....
Most ppl need to care about how it sounds...especially when it sounds like crap!
