inconsistent start
inconsistent start
Hey guys,
Im having issues with an inconsistent start on my 1998 maxima GLE. I went to autozone and the printout gave me two codes, P0325 which is for the knock sensor and P0340 which is for the CAM sensor.
The car will crank and crank but wont catch sometimes. Other times it starts right up and run without a hitch.
Could a bad CAM sensor cause the knock sensor code?
What are your thoughts?
Thanks.

There are many things that will cause the KS code. Cam sensor is probably one of them. Test cam sensor and harness. Check sensor for metal filings sticking to the magnet. Replace cam sensor,
as that will cause hard starts and possibly no starts.

alright I'll try that thanks
I had a ks sensor and a cam sensor pop up at autozone and i think i paid like 8 bucks with shipping for a crankshaft position sensor on ebay, took me 5 minutes to replace. After i put it on cleared the cel by myself it started fine but ran like crap, checked out my ks and it had a crack all the way around it, changed it out in about 30 minutes and the car ran like a dream and still does to this day. My advice buy a ks and ckps odd ebay for like 20 bucks shipped(if that much) change out the ckps and if it still runs rough check out the ks. Worst case scenario you have an extra ks in case you need one.
The cam sensor along with the 2 crank sensors have everything to do with ignition timing. When they don't work, you get an extended crank.
I had this issue with the (POS) Crank sensor, on the bellhousing. Your cam sensor is in the timing chain cover, and is clearly visible on the front (passenger side) of the engine.

Mine was always starting just fine but my starter was sticking, so last weekend when I installed the warpspeed y-pipe, I took it all apart, cleaned and re-greased it. What a difference!
Since I had everything out of the way, I took the ground from the chassis and the engine off, wire-wheeled everything and put it all back together.
Next morning I am going to work and the neighbors fine-*** wife is out walking the dog, so I hop in to show that not only is my exhaust leak fixed, but my starter doesn't sound like it's dying anymore.
Had to crank it for a good 4-5 seconds before it turned over. Very intermittent here as well, but not sure why all of a sudden it started doing this.
