can i put 5th gen heads on 4th gen?

so i assume my timing tensioner went bad and caused the timing to jump a little. anyways, after days of it driving like ****, my car would no longer run.

i have the fear that i bent my valves, but i sure hope not. anyways, since the motor will be apart, is it possible to install 00-01 heads? i found some for cheap. so any help?

Yep, I believe coolant lines are different, but the heads should fit.

Are you just assuming the timing jumped? Have you checked the codes? Its more likely that you have bad grounds or sensors. The vq30 is not well known for mechanical breakdowns.

00-01 Heads cheaper than a 95-99 motor??? Even if they're free, it's not really worth all of the effort of changing heads.

Here's what you should do:

1. Craigslist.

2. Find motor for $300.

3. Profit.

he can already get the whole motor for less than 300... be it a de or de-k...

not sure why you wanna change the heads dude. supposedly the cams are even less aggressive than the stock de... i believe i read that in the cams thread... and like they said, i doubt you jumped timing... even if the chain tensioner was bad the other two guides would keep it in line.

Yeah, when we had mine apart you could see that the cam chains are separate from the timing chain. They dont have tensioners. So even if the timing chain jumped a tooth or more it wouldnt mess up the valves, it just wouldnt run or there wouldnt be spark on a couple of the cylinders. Best way to be certain is to remove the timing chain cover and take a look at your timing. Theres marks on the chain and the inner cover. Its easy once you see it.

5th gen flow better but have larger cumbustion chambers, resulting in lower compression. People swap 3.5 cams into 3.0 heads for higher lift.

well the heads are $90 on CL. so i figured why not. anyways, one shop already took to damn long then charged me $30 for him looking at it. even though all he did was try and turn it over. so i took it somewhere else. i ran out of driveway space to have another broke-down car.

sure. it's a lot more work and with a lot more room for error than just swapping in an entirely new motor though.
