Did you double check all of your connections?

By all means, don't take this the wrong way, but did you check your dimmer switch to make sure you didn't brush against it and turn the brightness down? I've actually done that myself a time or two.

You could have blown a fuse. Look under the driver side dash for the fuse box and check.

Does your radio stay working when you turn the lights on? Just asking. The maximas we drive have no ground wire in the dash for the radio. They ground through the chassis of the radio and the radio brackets. The reason i bring this up is because the Dash light wire (also called a illumination wire or dimmer wire) reads a ground till you turn on the lights. So if your used the Dash light wire for a ground, It will cause your dash light to quit working. There is still probably a blown fuse. Don't forget to check under the hood for fuses. I hope this helps.

You may have wires touching. Make sure you are capping the ends of the wires properly. You says you checked fuses and they are fine so, check your ground and make sure it has good contact.

This.

I have done the same to my max when installing a radio. Make sure that u tape off all unconnected wires or it will touch some metal behind the radio and make a short.

Most likely u didnt tape off the dimmer (yellow) wire.

My 97 maxima's doing the same thing. I installed a radio and the lights were still working fine. Then, one day a neighbor used a tester tool to check that all the connections were good and that night, my gauge and PRND lights don't work. I know a tester couldn't have done anything but its too coincidental that they stopped working that same night after he tested the wires under the hood. Any idea why?
