AE 5speed tranny pointers
AE 5speed tranny pointers
So, my tranny should be coming in any day now. Does anyone have any recomendations or things I need to be aware of? I got both axles with the tranny even though I know I don't need both. I ordered new axle seals. Is the gear selector shaft different between 4th and 5th gens? Meaning do I need to take the one off my car and put it on the 5th gen tranny? I am aware of the speed sensor swap. I just want to make sure I have everything i need.
Thanks,
Thanks,
Word to the wise man, I wouldn't recommend it unless you're gonna swap out the electronics as well. I say this out of experience from my buddy's tranny that just crapped out due to the gears being different, ie. 5spd vs 4spd.
He had the 2001 AE 5spd auto tranny and it slowly started to go out. Long story short, we just got one from a 1996 Infinity i30 with LSD
and it's waaaay better than the AE 5th gen trans. Also, it might be better if you just got the rebuild kit for 4th gen tranny instead of forking out the dough for the 5th gen one.
Just my .02

he didn't say it explicitly, but he is talking about a manual transmission, not an automatic.
the yoke on the striking rod is a slightly different length. you don't have to swap it, but if you want your shifter to be located precisely the same you do. without the swap your shifter will move about 1 inch.
