Thanks, I'll do a flush and fill, should I use any type of fluid specifically ? I heard that Amsoil makes great tranny fluid.

Check the fulid level and condition first.

Amsoil makes a GREAT synthetic trans fluid. But if you're trans is gone already (or very clsoe to it) no sense in spending the $$ for Amsoil. Any dex3 or equivalent should do the trick for you.

the ONLY type of "flush" you want to do is the dialysis type...basically run a hose from the return to a big a$$ bucket, and fill from a different hose. This procedure will use your own tranny pump to pump out teh old fluid, and in with the new. (do not use the "power flush" machines or anything like that. especially with over 200k.

You can do a simple drain and fill, that's the easiest. Drain the fluid from teh pan, drop the pan, clean the magnets and the screen (if necessary), put pan back on and add fresh fluid. You won't get 100% new fluid, but it's much better than nothing, and you won't spend as much as opposed to the full fluid exchange mentioned above.

BUT the above only applies AFTER you check fluid for fullness and condition. You may want to alter your plans depending on what the fluid looks like.

From what I described, do you think my tranny is going ? I checked the fluid though and it looks kind of dark and may be overfilled. It looks like the old trans fluid was just mixed with a little bit of new fluid. I think I'm just gonna drop the pan, clean it and refill, that and do an oil change using Amsoil for both. Im assuming doing both isn't hard, is it ? This would be my my first car that I actually plan to buy the parts and tools for and Do the work myself on (college student trying to save some money). I need the Repair Manual ASAP !
