dealing with evap code please help

how do you check to see if the vapor canister check valve is working properly? replaced the canister itself because the charcoal brick had broken and ended up dumping all the charcoal out of it. the code popped back up again today.

Pull the valve off, then watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHbZwil1lMo You can also run power to it using aligator clips or the equivelant and see if that plunger moves with power applied but DO NOT leave constant power to it, just a real quick power burst to see if it moves. If it is not moving either with power or by following the video, spray some PB Blast in it AND LET IT SIT FOR 30 MINUTES TO SET IN then try to free that plunger like the video shows.

well I know it's open when I took it off and I did spray some liquid wrench in it cuz it's nice and foamy. wasn't sure if it was supposed to be open or closed when unplugged but the video states it should be closed when not plugged in so there is the problem. thanks. now onto other issues

Could you get it to move after spraying it? If so, put it back in the car and you may be back in business. There will also be no bad effects from driving with it not working other than the cel and if it was stuck closed, filling the tank may take longer. Bit you are not going to hurt anything by driving with that valve bad.
