Addco RSB Installation question - HALP!

Addco RSB Installation question - HALP!

I'm no dum-dum, but me and my buddy are installing my Addco RSB (part numbe 655, proper for the 4th gen), and it appears as if the mid-section bracket (the curved U that goes over the axle) has threads that are not long enough. The bushing and bracket, when tightened, is loose, allowing flex...

The only other brackets are the side ones...

is this normal? I would think not.

Advice?

Pictures? could be there is a certain place it has to be. Sure its direct fit?

The u bolt threads run out before hardware gets tightened around axle. U bolts look too long.

I would call them and see what they have to say. From the picture it looks as if the braket is at an angle therefore angled up slightly on that side. Possibly add some rubber on top of the gold bracket where it contacts the beam on the bottom? Possibly some end link bushings/bump stop could fit on the u-bolt and add in some space? looks like it would be a perfect fit

I tightened it all the way just to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me,,,sure enough its got about 1/4 an inch of play when the nuts are all the way threaded. Hrmmm

On the way to oreilly now for some additional washers...just going to use those to shim.

The shield thing around the rear beam is at an angle.

so we had to use about 1/2" worth of washers to get the damn thing tight...

The side brackets were fine...just the damned U-bracket ones. Oh well. Got it all tightened up and took her out for some driving...wow. I have to get used to the cornering with no float!

for future reference, go buy a die(sp) and cut more threads. Either way, chime in and let us know how you like it after you put a few more miles on it...

I likely will be going to Lowes and getting a U-bolt that fits properly or cutting more threads like you mentioned. I just don't like things ghettorigged like that. It may work just fine, but it looks wonky to me.

Before you get U bolts at Lowes, figure out if the ones that came with the kit are a hardened steel. The stuff Lowes has probably is not.

so adding threads via die is likely the best option then, I take it? What about the excess? Is it ok to grind about an inch off of the ends so they don't hang down as far?

If I were you, I'd contact the place you got it or even Addco so see what options they would give you. I bet they would send you the correct u-bolt free of charge.

Thats exactly what i would do. Cut more threads, install the u-bolt, then mark a line about an inch off of the nut. Remove it all and hack the excess off.

I had the same problem when I put lowering blocks on my old explorer. I would definitely hack off the excess though; seeing long *** u-bolts under any vehicle is an eyesore.

thank you for using your head. that would'nt hold for very long or be very safe either. i had a mechanic try and do that with a motor mount and i argued that it would'nt be safe and he tried to tighten it up and it broke the mount stud. there's a right way, and then there's the ricer way...
