Clutch pedal adjustment

Sometimes car is hard to get in first and reverse. Changed fluid with redline and still same. Clutch to floor is 6" book says 6-5/8 to 6-7/8. I loosen the nut but have no idea what to do next. Thanks

You are supposed to be able to turn that knurled-looking rod that goes from the clutch pedal to the clutch master cylinder...but I was never able to get it to turn easily. I had to pull/bend the bracket off the pedal and turn it by hand. Be careful though, a couple of turns makes a big difference in the throw of the rod.
