P400 & 171 system too lean.. egr..

So my 97, Egr Malfunction Code lately but only when the gas tank is near empty :s and.. today I read a P171 system too lean code. Bahaha. Love this car.

is there anything else I can do to fix this aside from replacing EGR?
Does it even matter? fuel injector cleaner? octane booster? haha

note: my exhaust is getting louder than used to, must be a little hole somewhere probably near the cat sounds like, typical issue of it become rusty and leaky near the gasket before or after the cat. Had that on my other max but with no codes several times. Could this be the cause of the code?

Could have an EGR leak as well. I would simply block off the EGR if your going to have to replace it anyways. GEt the EGR gaskets and take them to a machine shop and get them to machine some block off plates for ya. Problem solved for good

p0140

don't mean to hijack the thread but I cant start one myself. I just installed a warpspeed y pipe and got P0138 (high volatge bank 1 sensor 2) like 200 miles ago and erased it, but now I got P0140 (o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2). I know only the upstream sensors monitor the A/F ratio and the downstream monitors the cat, so would there be any point in replacing bank 1 sensor 2 if its defective?
