96 maxima unsolved problem

I have 96 maxima with 250000 millage. I take care of it bigtime. the problem is:

1st engine light on and the code is P1400 which is EGR.

what happening is

when i drive it on the highway drives perfect even if im speeding 90 or 100 mph with no issues.

But when i stop at the red light rpm start moving and goes between 500 down to lets say 470 rpm and when i push on gas it turns off and when i turn it on it runs with some hesitation and then fine. on the other red light no problem but u feel the hesitation but not that hard.

now, when i add lucas or BG the car runs perfect when i stop like nothing wrong with it, with lucas it works fine for almost 2 weeks and with BG for a month or 2 and then the problem comes again.

i replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs, and i change oil every 3000 mile I use Castrol syntec, gas i use chevron only with supreme gas i mean i always use the best.

so any help please.

Yes i got one used, i cleaned it and installed it... but again what making me crazy is when i add any fuel injectors cleaner it works fine for 2 weeks then problem come back and when i reset the check engine after 20 or 30 miles come again with the same code P1400. i replace the knock sensor with new one, and vacume on the left of the egr replaced too.

Just so you know I have this code too, been researching and just decided to try replacing the EGR solenoid. This is a small valve assembly with a green connector RIGHT next to the opening between the UIM and lower. You have to move this sensor to get to the Knock Sensor. Easy to find really.

the green thing in the center of this photo. Thats the valve you want to diagnose

I test the egr solenoide and its 46 oms, i replaced it with another one shows 34 oms then reset the engine light. i drove it for 20 miles in a traffic places the check engine light still off.
now, when i stop and then move i push on gas 3 to 4 rph lets say and then slow down and stop the car stop move i move i turn it off and drive normal later. sorry for confussing but i notice that problem happen when i push too much on gas... my mechanic says you need to clean tha fuel tank, because when i use injector cleaner it works fine... and no code so far... any advise please....

I dont think its your fuel tank needing to be cleaned. The EGR system means Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Usually these things are all the valves and solenoids and vacuum systems LONG before its ever an issue with something as simple as a dirty fuel tank.

Although I have read a thread before that said they cleared certain codes just with a new gas cap... Can't remember the code though. :/

Work from the specific code you have. Our Engine Codes are usually pretty good at getting you in the general area and it will beat throwing parts at it until it goes away.

Edit; just re read your initial problems... That REALLY sounds like its a dirty MAF if you are choking it from a stop. I mean there's the TB the IACV and MAF to look at too, it sounds like

I had the same problem with my 96. The car had a code for the EGR soleniod valve. Got used one for 15 bucks, put it in, reset and runs like new.

In the FSM, factory service manual. You can find it on the forum just run a search.

it sounds like the dealer was jus gonna try to throw parts at it. U can do the same as well for much cheaper.

I suggest clean your TB, MAF, and IACV. Really sounds like a bad or faulty IACV. Resistance test the IACV per FSM

THe hesitation and jumping when you get on the gas after a stop leads me to believe its an IACV issue as well. 30ohms means its good. Lots of IACV problems as of late including mine. THe IACV is fine so its my harness
