Difference in superchargers (V1 and V2)?

What is the difference between the V1 and V2 superchargers? I've read some of the posts indicating the V1's are louder and more noticeable than the V2's. Is the power gain and operation pretty much the same? Is one discontinued because of the other, or are both still available for the 4th gen Maxima?

Power is the same.. even though MardigrasMax says the v2 runs higher boost better thant he v1..

V1 has perfect fitment..
V2 has/had fitment issues...

V1 has metal idler pulley
V2 has plastic pulley and will melt off if you run higher boost.. leaving you stranded on the road..

V1 is no longer in production and you can only buy it used
V2 is still avaliable from stillen..

V1 sounds like angry crickets..
V2 is quiet

Hey sprint when you say the v2 is quiet, just how quiet is that? I have never heard either but just curious if somone is running one if you can really hear it from outside the car with the hood down?

I have a V2 and have no problem with the idle pulley. And I'm running the 3.125 pulley. Only problem is the SC belt has been shredded down to 5 ribs.

What if you don't run higher boost but left it stock. Will it still melt?

Why would they switch to plastic anyway? makes no sence. I wonder if you gave the pulley to a letal fab shop if they could make a metal one from it?

I ordered the Gates belt online.

Stillen switched to plastic because they're cheap.

I have installed both versions.

Stillen changed the kit to reduce their cost.

IMHO the V1 bracket is better, it bolts on and off easier and uses the stock belt tensioner pulley. But the V2 blower is the weapon of choice, because it has higher internal gearing and will boost sooner and higher. The bracket on the V2 is a PIA to install and remove. The belt routing was changed to avoid having to modify the factory thermostat housing, which I'm sure was a big expense for Stillen. The replacment of the factory metal belt tensioner pulley with a plastic one and addition of a plastic idler pulley is a good idea in practice. But as we have seen they are troublesome and the bearings in them are prone to over heating.

I'll probably get drilled for this, but some of the abnormal pulley wear may be attributed to the need to over tighten the belt when using a smaller than stock pulley size on the SC. This puts an extra load on the bearings in the plastic pulleys and causes them to fail. IMHO...

pricing??

Do you guys think i could "safely" install a supercharger without any mods to the exhaust system?? Cause i heard that superchargers dont run off the exhaust.

They do not run off gas but you will get better gains if you do open up the exhaust. Especially the Y pipe.

call a different rep and see if you don't get a different answer.. lets just say stillen holds back when they hire reps..

senario..

Delio told me to buy the fields fuel controler from stillen..

I call stillen.. speak to some rep.. he says they dont sell them.. they never sold them..

I go back to delio and yell at him.. delio tells me to call his rep.. i call his rep.. they guy has it there and ready to ship..

Stillen doesn't sell the v1 anymore.. they only sell v2 kits and they are $3390 for 95 - 98 and $3900 for 99 - 2k1 ..

TRUST ME..

I won't argue with you, but the rep I spoke to told me the V1's are for 95-6 and V2's for 97-99. I asked if they could be switched, ie V2 for 96 and he said yes, but told me the V1 was still available. Either way I could care less, I don't want to add a S/C....

i doubt the v1's are available. The have part numbers on most of the stuff inside the kit, and when i went to get delio's parts for his kit (cuz it was missin so damn much) .. we had to like double/triple check his list (cuz the part numbers had been converted to v2 parts, and were different)

so..... if the v1 was available, wouldnt the part numbers have been left untouched?

Aside from using the SQ Supercharger in the V2 Kit... they also redid the bracket/pulleys like MardiGrasMax stated...

Yes you can hear it outside when the hood is down. It isn't loud at all though. Hard to explain. Picture a perfectly quiet summer night in the country and the sound of a distant field of crickets. Just an ever so slight background cricket sound. Perhaps another example would be blowing very, very lightly into one of those sport/coach whistles.
