Need Help

so i just got my maxiam and im having some problems.
first is my OBD does not work so i can scan for check engines.
and anytime i have my head lights on and touch anything that has to do with power like when i hit the breaks and my back lights come on they dim out and so do the ones insde my car. i put in a new battery and had the alternator check out and was told its good. i also put in a better ground because the one that was there didn't look to good also changed the + and - terminals but its still dims out on me
any ideas its a 96

You dont need a scanner, look here. http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ere-first.html

The light dimming seems pretty common. Disconnect and clean grounds to bare metal, especially the one at the battery tray (looks like I cable hold down). Also an aftermarket headlight relay harrness would keep your headlights shining bright, and take some load off the harness helping the dash lights as well.

You need a a voltmeter, every owner should have one for simple troubleshooting. With it you can check for continuity (connection) between the ecu and the obd2 port. Mine would not read either and it turned out the data wire had a break in it somewhere. I ran a new wire and my problem was solved. Sand inside the battery terminal clamps and the battery terminal. You can also disconnect the ground from the frame (12mm iirc) and sand /file it so there is metal on metal contact. Being you are a 96 there is probably all kind of dirt and corrosion getting in the way of a good connection.
