Cruise control

Somtimes my cruise control works and some times it doesn't. Could this be the cruise control relay?

Mine used to do that. I just replaced the steering wheel controls for it and mine works fine now.

Disassemble the controls and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser.

Could also be switches on the pedals.

All of the above plus many other possibilities. A vacuum leak to the Actuator mounted under the hoof on the firewall about center is another one.

Is there a write up for this? I've had this issue for a LONG time and just put it on the back burner and forgot about it. Everytime I go on a trip out of town though I miss it very much!

I was just going to pull an assembly from the Junkyard but i haven't got a chance to see how difficult/easy this could be.

You should do some trouble shooting first; there are just too many possible places to throw parts at it.

I don't believe there is but when I replace my steering wheel, I may take a few pics to show it.

I'm pretty sure it is the controls though since the master switch on the dashboard lights up green. however, the three buttons on the wheel have NO effect at all. No click, no engagement, holding down the set or resume button does nothing to maintain or increase speed.

Since that is where the process breaks down, should be a decent place to start right? I can check the pedal switches but if I can't get it to engage, I can't check to see if the brake pedal disengages.

I'll probably wait till Trini posts up some pics anyway though

There are no guarantees that the switches are the problem. There are a lot of conditions that have to be correct for the cruise control to engage. Check the continuity of the switch on the brake pedal. It may be intermittent.

Get the Nissan FSM for your year car. Then look up ASCD (Automatic Speed Control Device) and start checking.

That one should be the EVAP purge volume control valve, two bolts right on top of the UIM. Brown connector? EVAP system, and not related to Cruise at all.

Unless I missed some sarcasm in that? /shrug

trying to be helpful with what i know though. And EVAP codes I know! still trying to clear those little bastards out.

Several things have been suggested, but what have you checked and/or tested?

For example, when you press the switch on the dash, does the light in the instrument cluster illuminate?
