oil still leaking after ......

oil still leaking after ......

hello everyone , i just replaced rear valve gasket on my 97 maxima and still have oil burning off rear exhaust manifold. any ideas on what else it could be? the popular answer was valve cover gasket but no luck. thanks in advance

Did you use rtv in the sharp corners?

Im guessing is still the same thing. You can RTV the whole thing groove to not only keep it in place but prevent leaks. Once you tighten it up you must go back in a month or so and tighten it down again. Remember that

Same thing i did. Seal it really well.Install the cover and put more silicone in the grooves.

Several weeks after I replaced both rocker cover gaskets the front gasket started leaking around the dipstick. I just had to re-tighten those low-torqued bolts.

did the re-tighten help? Didndt wanna break another bolt.

If the surfaces were cleaned well, you should be able to pass your hand at the back and feel the corner to see if your hand comes back with oil. THis will help you to verify if its still leaking or still burning off existing oil.

With these bolts requiring such little torque, 47 to 65 in/lb, they can loosen if given anything under that. My torque wrench cannot be set that low so I didn't give it enough during installation. Those front bolts around the dipstick were loose so they didn't break when I tightened them up again with ~60 in/lb. I did that over a year ago and there's been no leaking since then.
