Question about test pipes...

When I look at the Warpspeed fed vs. cali hi-flow cat photos, they look different sizes, basically I want to buy a used test pipe, but it's from a fed., and I'm cali. I thought for sure though it didn't matter, that it would fit, but the photos look different, and there's that extra sensor pipe... any help would be great.

It doesn't matter. The sensor pipe is part of the catback, so any 4th gen maxima (5th gen are technically the same but aftermarket test pipes tend to be an inch too long) or 240sx test pipe will work.

besides, you're a 96. Cali/fed spec back then is really irrelevant...only the 99 did Cali spec "really" matter.

I skipped the whole test pipe/high-flow cat issue and went with a stainless steel resonator in it's place, added on an O2 simulator to eliminate the code and I love it.

Any sound clip? I was planning on doing this. Any links to stainless steel resonator that you have? Or info

No real gains from running a test pipe on an NA vehicle other then the smell. Of course, if your cat is bad a test pipe is always a cheaper solution.

I always believed in that (10+ years) until my last dyno.

I've done both as well and didn't notice any real gains, even with my cutout the HP gains werent great, but the torque was resulting in me ditching it and doing the full 3"
So you gained an impressive amount by simply just bolting it in? No other mods or tunning?

Wasn't direct comparison.

I basically removed the Helmholtz and fastcat in place of a test pipe and stright intake pipe.

Both same AFR's.

I will post as soon as I can but that may be a bit as my max I had it on, I just finished stripping down yesterday (totaled ) I should hopefully have it in my new max soon (just as fast as I can get a scrapper over here to pickup the shell so I have jack stands to use!)

I can't remember where exactly I picked it up, as it was about 3 years ago, but iirc, I purchased a Vibrant SS resonator (same length as cat) along with a couple of SS exhaust flanges, had a shop weld them on, then tossed it on the car.
