park/Neutral switch

Hey gus I keep getting the 1003 (ECU decoder) code which says it's the park/neutral switch. I only started getting this after swapping out the trans a month or so ago. Anyone can point me to exactly where this switch is and for some odd reason every time my car throws a code the knock sensor throws too. So I think I'm going to replace that as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Knock sensor throws a "ghost code" which means if you pull the codes from the ecu, it will show up. Everytime.

For the switch, iirc, you have to take off the air box assembly and it sits on the tranny towards the front of the vehicle

I've heard that it throws the code no matter what...just seems like crap cause it retards timing and dumps fuel. thanks for the position. It might just be a faulty connection.

thanks!

The knock sensor sometimes piggy backs off of other problems like Evap or EGR codes, but if the Ghost code is always there with nothing else tripping it, then you have a bad knock sensor. Plenty of videos on Youtube on different ways to change this out yourself. AND the 20 dollar EBAY sensors work just fine for the majority of us on the ORG.

The park nuetral switch I don't see affecting the knock sensor so you really do have two separate problems. The switch the more important issue. But you wanna replace that sensor too, you will notice a difference in power within 50 miles or so usually.

unless the code is just not setting off my check engine light and I'm only noticing it when something else does.. I notice a difference now when I reset the ecu and then a week later I get that park switch code. I already had plans to change the knock and the harness out.

I have a 5spd swapped Max too. I recently put in a new P/N switch and it didn't solve my problem. Still get a CEL, and reverse lights don't work.

HMMM strange... My P/N switch was bad because my reverse light werent working but I never got a CEL for it. I only bothered to change it because I was trying to install a rear view camera otherwise I would not have bothered. I put new one in and it worked along with my rear view camera..

I'll check my reverse lights this weekend and also check out the harness and see. The only I can see is there is a faulty ground...or the harness is messing up.
