Need Help!

I have a 1997 Se Maxima, and the battery light came on. I have a new altanator, and my boyfriend thinks it's the pully to the altanator, so we got a new pully and put it in, but the battery light still comes on. Does anyone know whats wrong with the car? please help (:

Back probe the alternator while the car is running to see what kind of voltage you're getting.
This will tell you if the new Alternator that you have is really working. Replacement Alternators seem to be hit or miss; is it OEM, rebuild, or new non-oem?

It took me two replacements (one from Napa and brand new non-oem from ebay to get it right.

Also, check all of the connections on the alternator. My Napa replacement was bad because one of the connections was bent/loose, and it caused the battery light to flash on and off intermittently.

Most people say go oem with alternators, but I've found some great deals on new non-oem alternators and starters on ebay; $80-$100 instead of $150-300 for reman or oem.

Just my 2 cents...

did you check the battery? cause if its dead you are just gonna kill the alternator again.

Check the alternator voltage and take the battery to autozone or some place where they can check your battery for free.

Run the car and put a voltmeter to the batter, you should get about 12V when the car is off and 14.2 while running. This is all providing your battery is good, if you dont get a +2.2V while running the system is not charging

If the alternator is not charging, it's a good probability that the battery voltage with the engine off will be low. But with the engine running, the battery voltage should be around 14 volts. Unfortunately, it's not all that uncommon for a rebuilt alternator to go bad right away. First check that the alternator belt is tight and then check the voltage.
