Almost 200k and losing power

Seems like the more miles I put on my max, it gets slower and slower. Im almost at 200k with the original engine and tranny. Vehicle is bone stock, If you hit the gas it takes forever to get up and go. I recently changed the spark plugs a few months back and I had the induction service done at Nissan back at about 120k. I also use 93 octane if anyone is wondering. Any helpful inputs I would appreciate.

Not quite bone stock, I spy 5th gen wheels :P

What's the "induction service"?

Have you cleaned the IACV / TB / EGR? how about FUEL FILTER? When was the last time it was changed? Change it if it's been longer than 20K miles.

Maintenance is key to maintain performance.

Or it could be getting slower because it's sick of 4x4 status. Maybe lowering it a couple inches will help.

My 98SE was the same way. Did tune-ups, everything. Gas mileage was starting to dip to low 20's... Finally the MIL light came on, was a Knock Sensor. Had it replaced (OEM Nissan part).. it ran like a champ again, fuel economy has been 24-27 ever since.... About to flip 280k.

My A/T had to be replaced at 220k.

The induction service is usually when they clean all the carbon build up in the engine, cleans the fuel injectors, etc. The fuel filter was replaced recently also.

I dont recall the knock sensor every being replaced. The max has been in my family since new. I was thinking I would get some code on the dash to let me know if it was bad. I'm not sure if the 97s have the "MIL" light. If it doesnt I havent seen it.

Maybe you have low compression in the cylinders. Check your compression then get back here with the results

Knock sensor is usually a ghost code.
Ours its called, CEL (Check Engine Light, orange bulb, bottom right corner of the cluster).

Oh ok lol, that makes sense. It has come on one time since i've had the car and that was because this switch(cant remember which one it was) was left unhooked when I had my motor mounts replaced.

Check the ECU for the knock sensor code. The how to is in the stickys at the top of this forum. A faulty KS will NOT set a check engine light, but the code will be stored.
As others have mentioned the cats could be an issue. Usually a clogged cat shows itself at operating temp. In other words, the car accelerates normally for the first 5 min or so, then slowly starts to fall on its face as things heat up when you try to accelerate.

No bad knock sensor is going to make you lose power like he is saying. I drove around on a bad ks for a couple of years and didn't notice a big difference in power loss. If your continue to lose power you should check your compression

Thanks for the suggestions guys. My max runs perfect, just seems like its not as fast as it use to be. It could be that because I rotate between my 4th gen and 7th gen, im getting use to the 7th gen power.

I'm pretty sure a bad knock sensor will cause you too lose power and mileage.

Yeah, when I replaced my knock sensor I definitely felt a power restoration. Before it would have a hard time going through 2k to 3k rpm range. I would really have to lay on the gas pedal pretty hard to get going and it wasn't a smooth acceleration.
