Changing dash lights

So I'm sitting in my mom's 95 Max Non-Bose and the dashboard is bothering me. The radio is a 1 Din Sony Xpod XR-CA350X. The Buttons are basically red with the LCD screen being white with a blue background so I was wondering if some of you on here could help me choose some colors. I was thinking the numbers and needles could be red with the background being blue? But I was also thinking about doing the mod with the needle changing to red as it gets close to redline. Any thoughts on this?

Also here are the videos for example

Go have a look thru these threads with pics...Should give you some ideas. Also, pics of your interior now would help people to give an opinion. Also, it sounds as though you are looking to do some soldering instead of plug and play led's, correct?

Ive never seen needles that turn red when you get close to redline.....seems like that would be extremely difficult to do

Go blue interior:

http://forums.maxima.org/8392420-post57.html

With your '95, any 360* led that has a 194 base will work, AND give you zero hotspotting..how do I know? I got them for my wife's Outback (and father in law's as well). Go to superbrightLEDs.com, the type you want is this:

WLED-xHP5: LED T10 Wedge Base Bulb

^^That's for your cluster, and available in 6 colors. Plug and play baby!

Doing the backlighting for the LED climate control could be a bit more, involved...but well worth it! You can customize not only the backlighting color, but the color of the individual LEDs themselves...

Don't forget window switches!

searching on the org is a very acquired skill. It's easier to use the "Site:" preference in google when searching.

Definetly ! Amerikaner83 suggested it & from his work it looks good + it goes with the radio face a little bit, i'm still trying to figure out how to get the needles red without taking them out...Someone suggested me spray paint them seeing how the needle is white but I want the housing to be red also

thanks, man I appreciate the kind words

I actually went with the "cool white" LEDs for my cluster, since the 98-99 digital custer has a little bit of blue film to it already...gives off a subtle blue to it. I can only imagine how blue yours wiill look...can't wait to see it!

I would take your cluster out, put the cool white bulbs in like Amerikaner said, and use a red sharpie on your needles to change the color and call it a day. I think that would look the best...but I'm bias since that's what i have in mine

Edit: I left the factory white on the underside of my needles and put the red sharpie on the top that way I didn't have to take the needles off. Here's my pic. Looks better in person but you get the idea. The needles originally looked exactly like yours.

The GTO in that video is slow as molasses.

Also nice choice in color. I've always wanted to do a duel LED set up to have white ones backlight during the day and amber ones during the night when you turn the lights on. Not sure how difficult that would be.

mazda 323 was the best one! i'm looking to go led as well, my upper left light on the bose went out a few months back... i saw it done on the toronto maxima site, then 2brosgixxer and amerikaner now you lol.

that needle changing color to redline is the sickest idea ever... kinda lexus lfa-like.

2bros, very nice and crafty idea with the red sharpie, now your interior looks a lot likemk4 vw's lol which imo, have the sickest stock guages/color.

op, good luck and report back with pics!

Doesn't bother me Lol I'm an Evo type of guy. But yes I agree, Maybe you can have a professional do it then send you the gauges & stuff so it can be P&P for you

Yeah! I completely agree with you on that. Idk how they did it but it was a great job. But as far as I know it's P&P depending on which bulb you go with. So i'll be finding out today!! : ))) !!! Thanks for reminding me! I have to run & go get a red sharpie!!! LOL! & I definitely will. Maybe a video of me installing the bulbs also.

Did you use red marker on the top side of the needles? If you want to do it again, I used the red marker but just "dotted" down on the needle instead of using it like normal by going back and forth cause I noticed that dotting seemed to cover better. Looks good though! And for your window ones, contact amerikaner83 or look thru his thread here http://forums.maxima.org/members-rid...-progress.html I know he did his, just not sure if he wrote about it in his thread but I'm sure he can point you in the right direction for a write up etc. Good luck.

Also, are you going to led your heating/ac buttons? Do you keep your speedo cluster lights fully bright or do you dim them? I dim my speedo cluster ones but that also dimmed the heating/ac lights to where I could not see them and i didn't feel like putting leds in...so, I did a mod so that the heating control lights won't dim with the switch. Let me know if you want the link to that write up.

Edit: here is my write up http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...sible-how.html post #20 has the actual write up.

I kinda just tried to color it in a straight line kind of, but thanks! I don't think i'll be removing it again anytime soon. Lol. I'm actually going to PM him soon if he doesn't check back on the thread before I hit him up. Well for right now what I have planned is the window switches, Dome light, courtesy light then license plate light. But I keep them all the way up. Maybe it's because I love the way it looks now but probably I will start to dim them later on. & thanks again, i'll check the link out now.

The dome light (back seat area), map light (between the sun visors) and the plate lights will all be plug and play bulbs...the window switches will require you to solder just so you are aware. I stuck a set in my side bumper lights too (#194 bulb)

looks good!!

Yes, for the window switches, it's a bit more intense, but completely doable if you have basic soldering skills. The only problem ones are the rears, as you are replacing a SMD LED (surface mount) with the "regular" bulb-looking one.

I am having trouble finding the site that I used as a writeup for mine, but it's pretty self-explanatory: pop off window switch trim without breaking (pry from rear/front), remove screws holding housing to trim, pop 4 tabs holding housing, flip housing upside down and slowly remove the PCB and switches...note orientation of the LEDs currently and replace with your 3mm LEDs in same polarity orientation.

Lemme see if I can find it for ya.

edit - FOUND IT! silly me, it's in the how-tos right here

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/479058...-maxima/page-3

Scrolll halfway down the page for the 4th gen writeup. He lists a dremel as required, it's NOT. Only if you got teh big 5mm LEDs, and you shouldn't. The 3mm are plenty good. The writeup is listed for 98-99 maximas, not sure if it's exactly the same as yours, but it's probably pretty close.

Do you want to stay with blue?
