Did some research and know the basics but I just have a few questions my power goal is 300 horsepower stock internals I herd I need a custom down pipe and manifold can someone verify also what trim turbo will be good

So so so true. Honestly it depends on your piping and set up..whatever you go with all the high limit on the turbo to be and 100hp capable. This way you are pushing it to the limit.

Personally, I'm going with a 3076r.

There arent too many folks wit a turbo setup.

The only bolt on FI system ever manufactured for the 4th gen was the Stillen supercharger kit and those are no longer made.

Your best bet is to try to get a used Stillen system.

U can do a turbo but YOU better know what u are doing cuz there are not a lot of ppl with a setup. AND each setup is tailored to the size of turbo they used. Its all custom man so that makes it more challenging.

Is it worth it at this point? I remember back in the day a few folks supercharged their VQ's. I mean today, everybody and his mother can get 300 HP by doing nothing more than flashing a DME on an already turbocharged car (like the VW/Audi 1.8 or 2.0T). The problem is, once you've got 300 HP, how are you going to get it to the road, and what are you going to do with it? Our steering is already so light and the car is already capable of going 130+....just sayin'

Again, there is something cool about the old school way. What did we do before android and iPhone? Long ago, there was even something amazing called BlackBerry, and nextel.

So when you supercharge or turbo a VQ, you're doing what would have been like a BlackBerry was 10 years ago. To be honest, it's very sweet to have the abilities. I mean the rest of us feel good when we manage to get all 4 struts changed on our own, incl. compressing the springs, but you guys are fabricating pipes!

Nowadays, since so many cars are turbo from the factory and going back to the late 90's, it would seem a lot easier to reprogram one of those to get high dyno numbers.

What would float my boat is to see a total 1998 Maxima restoration to showroom condition, now that would be sweet!

It is a big job to turbo a maxima your going to have to costom fab the entire kit personaly i would try to find a used supercharger or just build it high comp N/A(fully built N/A should easly be at 300hp with a good tune and no lag). but if you do turbo it i would go with a gt30-gt35r nothing bigger than a 35 with stock internals cuz the lag time would be crazy.

You can do what I did. Maxima was my first new car. Started dreaming about BMWs, remember getting ragged on by this guy on this forum, why don't you just go an buy one if you love them so much. 8 1/2 years later I got a new 335i coupe, twin turbo. imho there's nothing wrong with taking a while to get what you want, despite the people who mock you as if you'll never be able to. I suppose if you want a turbo or supercharged Maxima, you can do it.

There are feed pipes being sold right now in the classifieds but that is just half the battle, ic pipes must be mocked up. Even for sc some sort of charge air cooling should be an option. If you really want to turbo a maxima you will do it but read, read, and read some more, it will take some cash even if you "cheap out". You also have to be prepared if things go wrong and be able to work on your car and know your car. If you can't do these things don't do it. Just trying to save you some money because other than the pipe fabrication I have done all the other work and have had no issues even though it is a learning curve. And yes, powerwise boosting a max keeps you with what is coming out of the factory NA.
