The Pike!!

I know the majority of you guys have watched the infamous "the Pike" video taped by clee130. I was just wondering if any of those cars were auotmagics and whether or not they had over drive off. I never really gunned my automagic for a lengthened period of time, but after a while wont it be necessary to turn on the overdrive in order to shift to 4th gear?? Does turning off overdrive increase/decrease fuel economy??

At higher speeds it would probably decrease fule economy since it would be revving up the engine alot higher since 4th would be locked out.

The car will go over 130. That's all that will happen.

I was riding in yo_its_ok's car and I don't remember if he left OD on or off, I was too busy filming.

He probably left it off.

Just a question... On my old 96 SE auto, my redline in 3rd gear was at about 120?? It would then need to be shifted into 4th to hit 130's, so I was confused about the 130 with OD off remark??

guys.....turning OVERDRIVE off does absolutely NOTHING for acceleration UNLESS you are going over 100 and you're car won't downshift to third. Go to the track and run with overdrive on...and overdrive off...and you will the the EXACT same result. All the overdrive button does is lock out 4th gear.

I'm liking your car right about now. BTW,95emeraldgxe thats a PRCAI making that noise. The other place where you can hear my car is in Clee's Island dragway videos, available at www.maximaproducts.com . I am video #7 (yes, I ran a crappy time that run...) Other things that make my car have a VERY nice rumble include a Cattman Y and an Apex'i WS exhaust with a RT cat.

So if I was going to go for top speed, would it be wise to have OD on or off? I have an auto by the way. Also, which is better for a daily driver, on or off? Thanks!

Actually....if u want to get top speed, you want to leave overdrive off until u redline the car when its in 3rd gear, then u turn it on. If you leave it on, the car wont hit the red until 4th.

This makes no sense, redline in 4th is redline in 4th no matter how you get there, so top speed would be the same in both cases and would require OD to be ON.

Top out 3rd gear, then turn OD on, wait for the car to shift, and it will continue to accelerate.

This OD button brings back a lot of memories from Maxus 01, especially the way back home

Yeah, but in my old 96 auto I could hit my top spend with just leaving my OD on. The question was "So if I was going to go for top speed, would it be wise to have OD on or off?"

To hit top speed in an auto Maxima you have to have OD ON.
