frustration continues p0446

Ok so I been dealing with this for a while now, I went and bought a vent control valve for $100 changed it cuz the old one was stuck and rusted. Cleared the codes literally drove about 50 miles maybe more with the cel off. I take it to the dmv as soon as the scan the ecu the cel comes back on and I it fails inspection. Ok next day I get under the car all hoses are good and there is a line fully rusted out so maybe it leaking so I change it to a brand new one clear codes take it to dmv again and it fails again code p0446 on the report it says leakage incidents while the cleaning procedure for the charcoal canister was goin on..so now I'm about to get a brand new canister. Should I get one or any tips on what might be wrong?

Had the same type of problem and same code; new valve did not fix it. On the bracket in front of the cannister are several small valves/sensors hooked together with small sections of hose. Poking around, I found that one of the nipples was broken off, but the short hose held in in place so it looked OK, but was not. I replaced the whole bracket and attached stuff from a Pull-A-Part lot for about $30 - no problems in the 2+ years since. Good luck.

When you replace the canister, take the old one and tilt it towards the nipples. If charcoal flows out freely, then you may have some carbon backup in the lines and/or stuck carbon in or near the sensors.

before you test again physically reset the ECU via the screw on the side of the ECU so you are sure nothing is in there that will cause you another $20

all hoses were perfectly fine i did the reset of the ecu and everything but nothing worked, i bought a new canister for $76, when i removed the old one there was tons of black residue falling out of it. i replaced it with the new one, reset ecu and drove around for about an hour and a half (since when i took it to the dmv right after they said the ecu wasnt ready), took it back to the dmv and passed finally =) thanks a lot for everyone's help

I just got P0446 code.

So basically check the valve for operation by applying 12V. Iv the valve doesnt work, try cleaning it out or replace. If the valve works, check cansiter for any broken/rusted nipples. Check the canister for leaking charcoal. Replace as necessary.
