Problem with Mevotech Inner Tie Rods
I changed the inner and outer tie rods on my '97 Infiniti I30 two months ago while refreshing most ofthe front end (new passenger side wheel bearing, control arms, tie rods and boots, cv axles, brakes, & rotors).
Now, after only two months, I'm getting a clunking noise under my feet during hard braking, or braking while turning (stop sign braking).
I replaced the front and rear motor mounts because I thought that I saw a little excessive movement and figured this was the cause of my knocking, but low and behold, after re-investigating with the shake the wheel test, it looks like the noise is coming from the left inner tie rod along with a lot of play. Infact, I checked the right side wheel, and there was even a little play and noise from the right inner tie rod too.
I've ordered new ones, and will change this week, but has anyone else had issues with Mevoech?
I'm also a little worried because I used Mevotech for the control arms too. Should I be expecting to the ball joints and control arm bushings to go bad as well? Just griping, but gotta love redoing repair work due to bad parts...

you're right about the mevotech parts being of poor quality. a year ago at our shop we were sold mevotech strut mounts for an i30, they lasted a week. we replaced them with moog parts that are still in use. during the same time we installed mevotech motor mounts on another car, which only held up a couple of weeks. we won't buy them for resale and advise customers not to install them if they come in with them. just plain poor quality. you get less than what you pay for with this brand of parts. people usually are lured to the lower prices.

Mevotech follow up! Whatever you do, no Mevotech!
Sorry guys, I'm just in a bad mood today as I again have to redo work due to shotty Mevotech parts. While still searching for my front end clunk / knocking noise while braking and turning, I was attempting to replace my struts with quick struts (see my other post today) when I noticed that the Mevotech sway bar links that I installed 2 months ago were already shot. There was a rip in the boot , and grease on the control arms (left and right)! When I removed them, the socket part of the sway bar link could be moved around like an old atari joy stick. WTF? I'm officially done with all things Mevotech. Just want to let you guys know not to buy any front end suspension / steering parts made by Mevotech. Not sure if it's the cause of my noises, but damn sure couldn't have been helping. I think I'm going to go ahead and be proactive and replace the damn Mevotech control arms that I installed 2 months back. Nothing like crapping away $200, and a day worth of driveway work.
