Please help identify what this is, 1998 Maxima

So I found this dangling "doohicky" attached to the side of the MAF sensor. But I couldn't identify where it plugs into or what it is. I tried looking for it on http://parts.nissanusa.com/ but cannot find it or don't know what component it belongs to. Tried searching forums, but since I don't know what it is, hard to search. I'm curious what it is because its probably been this way for years. Thanks in advance.

That's my guess, too.

Since my current intake doesn't have a spot to put the sensor, I just placed it down by the battery since the wire for it isn't very long.

Sweet! Thanks for identifying it. That plastic air duct on my car does have a empty hole in it, this thing plugs right in. Its called the "ENGINE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR" according to thats parts website.

Now since its been unplugged for so long and looks rusted, do you all think I should replace it?

It wouldn't hurt if you did replace it. Have no idea what they cost... probably not too much I would think.

if your not getting a check engine light with that sensors associated error code, then it's working. Put it back where it belongs and fogetaboutit.
