New tranny from junk yard but axel wont go in

k got tranny with 80k miles put it in 3 months ago but my original cv axels were non locking non abs and with the new tranny i had to swap only one out the driver side one wouldnt go in so i went and bought one locking axel and it goes in the tranny but it wont seat properly ive knocked the hell out of it and it only goes halfway in. so ive driven a good 300 miles like this and really would like to know what i need to do to fix it cause its constantly running a quart low on atf cause when full to HOT it leaks out by the Axel.

its 99 maxima auto.

well you need to determine if its is a locking diff or not and get the right axle for the trans. Im assuming your referring to the driver side, and the pass will falls right in. I usually insert the axle and use the free travel in it, as a slide hammer affect to hit it in there.

there are ways to find out if you have a VLSD trans or not besides just flipping a coin...

Hopefully the diff bearings in your new trans don't have any play in them. grab the axle on the side its leaking where it goes into the trans and pull up and down on it with some force. If it moves and clunks you got a junk tranny. And if the axle isn't seated properly like you say i have seen them pop out and ruin ****. Good luck man.

Was the CV new or reman? time and time again i have seen "new" made just outside of spec and not seat right. you can have them pull a reman and use a feeler gauge/micrometer to make sure they are in fact identical.

I still think you got the wrong trans. If you got the correct trans, you wouldn't have had to switch out axles.
