hose between the two valve covers?

Hello all,
What is this hard black plastic hose connected between the two valve covers called? I went to autozone, but they did not have a rubber hose to fit the same diameter. I am S.O.L until I get this hose or something that meets the same measurement so I can finish the valve cover gasket installation.

I installed a clear vinyl hose that fit tightly enough.

Alright, sounds like a plan. What is the purpose of this hose, anyways?

Thanks for the picture. Do you remember what diameter your vinyl hose is?

I don't remember the diameter, but it was off the shelf of my local Ace Hardware store. I liked the idea of clear tubing as it "literally" provides a window into the condition of my engine in terms of blow-by and carbon build up.
Personally I would not pay dealer prices for such a simple stretch of hose, and I dont like the high spot in the middle of the OE piece as it might cause vapors to gather and build up deposits. I also removed the associated bracket to un-clutter the top of the engine.
Photo was created Sunday, August 22, 2010, 6:36:00 PM. Don't know when I actually installed it, but it hasn't hardened, yellowed or melted yet.

I found a hose for it no problem, stop shopping at AutoZone. I wanna say I used a 3/4" and just ran the hose clamps down real tight with my impact. works fine.

You don't need an OEM part for that breather hose. My local autozone had the correct diameter hose. I installled it 32,000 miles ago and it has held fine with no leaking.

My stock hose was shattered on both ends. I grabbed another one from my garage and popped it on.... no problems with fitting.

I used a regular hose from O'reilly. I took the old hose to measure the diameter.
