rear seat setup

I know this should go in the audio and electronics forum, but it does have to do with performance. I am installing two 12" cerwin vega subs in my trunk tomorrow, but i want them to be aimed forward through the ski hole, but i would like to make it bigger. Would it hurt the structure of my car if I removed the metal plate with the hole cut into it? If it does, is there any way to make a bigger hole and support the structure of the car some other way.... Thanks!!!

I don't know if it's structual or not, but adding a RSTB would probably more than make up for removing it. You could just build the box around it. This is all IMHO.
