350z exhaust

Just a curious question. I know we share motors, yes i know the 350 is tuned differently, so I was wondering if we put the muffler or if the exhaust will fit the whole exhaust system will it sound similar?

NO, the 350 is longitudinally mounted while the max is transverse. the exhaust wont fit the engine or chassis.

The 4th gen maxima does NOT share the same motor. To answer your questions, no, no, no, and no.

The only Maximas to share to the same engine are 5.5gen+. And even then it wasn't long because in 07, the 350z got the hr engine.

Lol I know what u want and without getting technical this is what you're gonna do:

get an eBay cat back ($200) (replace the huge fart can muffler for looks if you wish +150) then go to an exhaust shop and have them remove the resonator on it and replace it with a straight through pipe. Then either buy a resonated test pipe (eBay $40) Or a high flow cat and bolt that on. Total without a high flow cat should be around $650 with work.

search on YouTube '1998 maxima straight pipe' and that is the closest thing you're gonna get to a 350 sound.

Technical:
It'll sound similar because they're both same degree bank dohc v6's, however they differ in sound because of 2 major things: the 3.5 has a variable intake and vvti which alter the sound as those parts move around at different rpms.

Check out 'mes' in the search bar here or google and they also make complete piping kits for a cat back that already come without a resonator so you cab save a bit on labour through that but you'd have to buy a muffler of your choice since the kit doesn't come with one.

thanks guys... I don't know why i thought the 350 was only a 3.0... I think the vq part is what confused me. reason I was asking is because im in need of exhaust work, I think cats may be plugged and I blew the rear o2 sensor out the other day.
