Could it be the thermostat?

Ok so my temp guage was acting a bit funny today... It would randomly rise a little past normal operating temperature then when i give it 1500rpm it goes back down to normal temp. heat works great and there are no coolant leaks whatsoever. Overflow tank is at max and both rad hoses are fairly warm.. Also when this happens, when i put the window switch up the temp guage rises and goes back down as soon as i let off the window switch, so it pulsates and responds to the window switch.. kinda weird if u ask me.. I was thinking it could be a ground since i changed the whole negative battery cable last week and while taking the old one off the body ground the bolt snapped so i relocated it to another stud sticking out and tightened it down. I have also made a vid so u guys can see exactly whats going on. TIA

First, what is the reason for your CEL to be on? Did you grind down the area where you added the new ground to bare metal?

Thermostats, installed correctly are designed to run cold as they get weak and fail.

Thanks for your response.. the idiot i was i didnt sand it down lool. it was basically over the paint. So i took it off and sanded down the actual mounting plate and the frame and put it back on. I will see if this made a difference. Also the CEL is for the knock sensor and the rear O2 sensor.

on another note i noticed some corrosion around the front temperature sensor on the metal coolant tube. The one behind it doesnt have as much corrosion. Could this also be a problem?

Sounds like it could be your coolant temp sensor. Start with that since those things are about $7. If it still does that, I'd recommend a coolant flush. If that doesnt work, do the T-stat. Basically, start with the easiest/cheapest fix first.

Sanding the ground fixed the problem! The gauge sits where it should and doesn't budge anymore, that was the easiest fix i ever did on a car lol. thanks everyone for your help! much appreciated.
