Bad Noise when started cold!?
Bad Noise when started cold!?
When I start my car in the mornings my engine make a horrible noise. The noise comes form the area where my timing drives are. Today somebody told me that maxima has timing chians not belts. The ironoc thing about that is it sounds like a loose chain, but the sound goes away after it gets warmed up. If anyone knows what it going on and can tell me how to fix it please let me know. This is driving me crazy.
P.S. This has inspired me to fix my old car (87 Mercury Lynx) and park the Max. Kind of a good thing.

I get a high pitch sound when i first start the car coming from the left side while looking @ the engine is this the same noise u are talking about? I heard something about re-greasing the starter or something i gotta bring it in the get checked out
there was a thread about this earlier this month, basically.....turn the key to the "run" position and wait a few seconds for the fuel injectors to engage and then turn it all the way. This may be a solution for some people, but maxGTR have have a more serious case possibly.
It's a different problem......
the problem is NOT at the starting.......
the problem happen after it started........

Yeah, I have the high-pitched screeching noise upon startup, around the passenger side on the engine bay, has only been happening for the last few months, cold weather? I don't know, I should have it checked out. Need to get an O2 sensor anyways, darn "check engine" light.

Isn't this the starter noise that just about everyone gets when the car is in cold weather?

the high pitch sqealing noise is the accessory belts... I still get it... this is part of the 60k mile service. Examine them for cracks, check if it's too loose, it may just need to be tightened up. I greased them a little bit, also the tensioner pulley (i think that's what it's called) and it went away, then came back later on... It squeals for a while until it warms up to operating temperature.... then goes away......
i think you have a tensioner problem...i have had this since i got my car a year ago, and yes it only occurrs when quite cold. i argued till i was blue with nissan mechanics about this problem (they had never seen one with the problem before, so they didn't beleive me..it was warm weather at the time, so i couldn't prove it to them).. the noise occurs for like 3 seconds after you start the car and then goes away. i think this is a VERY serious problem and would have it fixed if it weren't for the projected $1000 + price tag for repair...
if you have the money and this really is your problem, i think you should have the tensioner replaced...
just my 2 cents

some of that high pitched squeal could be water on the belts... thats what I suspect, ever since my CF hood, some water gets on the belts when I rinse my car and now the belts squeal for a few seconds then stop
