Front Valve Gasket Replacement Question

Do you have to remove the UIM to replace only the FRONT valve cover gasket?? Searched and looked at a number of threads, but never found a clear answer. Thanks in advance!

the front valve cover doesn't require the removal of the UIM. Do the bolt grommets and the spark plug seals while you're at it. I just completed the full "rocker cover" gaskets replacement, UIM, EGR flow tube, IACV, TB, and MAF. Might as well get it all done just once.

Watchout for the very brittle black tube between the two valve covers. If you break it, you have to remove the UIM to get at its other end at the rear valve cover to replace it. A 30-minute job can turn into 4-hour job.

Thanks, guys. It looked doable w/o removing the UIM, but always good to have confirmation. We will do grommets/spark plug seals - and will watch out for that brittle hose.

Would like to do both valve covers, but won't have the time. We have about 4 hours Sat AM for our Car Care Ministry to work on various "donor" cars - and this one also has to have front and rear struts done. We did the axles and power steering rack boots before we gave it to the recipient. Maybe next month for the rear valve cover if it still leaks too much oil.

Front is easy. No removal of UIM needed, but usually the rear ones leak more.
