Clanking noise??

Clanking noise??
Hello my fellow Maxima enthusiasts. I have a dilemma?? I have a 1995 Nissan Maxima SE W/116K miles. I'm getting a clanking noise as I start from a dead stop going from 1st to second and some times 3rd gear. It dissipates once I'm in cruising speed. It sounds like it's coming from the front (right) passenger side underneath the car. I can hear a rattle and clanking noise, it sounds like pipes hitting each other. I'm wondering if anybody has experienced this problem. I hope I've explained enough. Any suggestions or ideas is greatly appreciated. Thanks for all those who helped me previously on my Injector problems. I also wanted to add, the other day while driving, my front end would start to shake and pull right, it felt like my tire was going to fall off. I pulled over checked my lug nuts all was fine. However, as I continued to drive there was no more shaking and pulling??? I'm lost Thanks

OH MY GOD! I'm having the same problem. I have an auto and the same thing is happening when I accelerate, especially from low rpms. I have about 114k miles on my car. The noise seems to be coming from passenger side of the engine by the time chain compartment(?), right above the belts. When I put my hand there and rev the car, I can feel the something hitting against the side when the clanking noise occurs. Like you said, at cruising speed or when accelerating at high rpm's I don't hear it. It also seems to be worse/louder the colder the weather is. When I start the car in the morning, it's LOUD but as it warms up, it runs quite when idle.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! I'm really don't want to take it to the dealer because I honestly don't trust them.

-Bad engine mount
-Loose or broken bolt on Y-pipe or Catalytic converter
-Also check for loose cat-converter or exhaust heat-shields
Btw, you've distinguished your problem from "fmacdowell"'s, in that you can replicate the noise while at a standstill, by manipulating the throttle from under the hood. This eliminates three other possibilities that he may face if he cannot do the same: suspension, steering, or half-shaft (transaxle) problems.
Good luck!

Found some good info after doing a search. Here's a pretty good thread on what seems to be the same problem:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....5&pagenumber=1
A TSB is mentioned for '95 Maximas...
Service Bulletin Number: NTB96086A
Bulletin Sequence Number: 139
Date of Bulletin: 0006
NHTSA Item Number: SB613975
Make: NISSAN
Model: MAXIMA
Year: 1995
Component: ENGINE:TIMING GEAR AND CHAIN
Summary: THIS BULLETIN CONTAINS A NEW TIMING CHAIR TENSIONER, TENSIONER GASKET AND GUIDE IF A RATTLE OF EITHER SEVERAL SECONDS OR CONTINUOUSLY IS HEARD COMING FROM THE AREA OF THE TIMING CHAIN COVER WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED AFTER A COLD SOAK FOR VEHICLES WITHIN CERTAIN VIN RANGES. *TT
I searched the NHTSA site and also found the same TSB for '97's. I'm pretty discouraged that a fix will run around $1800, at the dealer of course. This really sucks.
