Ebay Timing?
Ebay Timing?
I've been asking around and gettin mixed results. Many people have been using an ebay timing kit with good results and I may jump on the bandwagon. I ONLY need the guides and tensioners from it, therefore leaving me with chains and sprockets galore. Are the guides and tensioners going to be worth any count? If not, give me a good reason why or tell me if you used it or not.
I dont know specifically about the timing chain kit, but I work at a shop and I do know about shoddy low quality Chinese made parts. If all you need are the guides and tensioner, I'd highly recommend oem parts. Imagine all that work you will do for the tensioner to fail some odd thousand miles down the line and blow your motor.

I was mainly asking this because my friend bought these parts for his and it worked out great. I was curious if anyone else made the leap of faith to try it out.
here's what it is (actually amazon)

I HAVE NOT bought it I was just looking for experiences/opinions. You can look at reviews yourself and see what i'm talking about..

I know for a fact the water pump will be oem though. No need to worry about that. I also may have access to some used oem stuff one from high miles and one from low miles. I still don't want to reuse tensioners though..
I agree, that's exactly what I just did. 4 OEM guides, 3 OEM tensioners, OEM water pump and inner timing cover o-rings came out to $385 with tax. I would have saved $185 with ebay or amazon guides and tensioners but considering the number of hours spent on this job it's not worth it taking a chance with aftermarket parts.
Then I guess I will indeed postpone my swap another week until I can sell enough crap and make enough money to get the oem goodies. Thanks for the input guys i'll post some pics of the swap when it is completed
