Trans

1988 transmission problems. So had intermittent problems basically, jerky , far and few. Automatic. Transmission oil appears good red in color. Accelerated onto freeway felt like I hit the gearshift with my elbow and put it in neutral. But not the case. It will shift into reverse and all the other gear positions but will not engage into reverse drive or any of the other gears. Hey really good looking car in great shape engine runs fine except for this problem.

You may have gotten more help if you had posted a real thread title, and not a one word title that gives nothing as to what the thread is about other than that it is about a "trans" .

http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...e-contest.html

As for what is wrong, I have no idea. I dont know what will cause an A/T to not engaging forward gears

EDIT: Possibly your Torque Converter..but that's just from googling
