So my 4th gen max is leaking oil around the lower oil pan / timing cover I know for sure it's not the sending unit I leak about 5 qt every 2 weeks a serious problem but my question is do I have to change everything in my timing cover if I just open it up to reseal it with RTV or will have to buy water pump, guides, Tensioner ect the car was a rebuilt salvage idk when the water pump or guides, tensioner was replaced.

once you are there - it would be much easier to do everything to avoid trouble in the future. it's up to you as that will burn a little hole in the pocket

if you are leaking that much - you don't have to change your oil I assume (cruel joke)

^ I think that's that new "self changing" oil. Lol

Op; you do not have to replace anything except for the rtv if you take the timing cover off. However, it would be wise to replace atleast the water pump o rings and tensioner. At the very minimum I would do the o rings. (Like $7-8 a piece from dealer)

Can't go wrong with preventive maintenance. Especially in the timing cover cuz it by itself is so labor intensive.

I just had the same issue. It was not leaking that much but still. The seal between the oil pan and timing cover need to be replaced. You can buy the entire seal kit and do it all , it's around 20 bucks. If you have the money it's better to do it all(chain, oil pump , water pump) now since it's open.
