help.. car used to be auto and its been swapped for a 5-spd..(not by me)
Hey guys.. I grabbed this car for a decent price.. but anyways.. I was told it was an auto and it was switched to 5-spd.. and it has a ses light on.. havent checked it yet to see what code but thats what I was told its on for from the previous owner.. car runs mint and starts fine.. has no issues.. my problem is I have to go through emisons with it and i cant with the ses light on obviously.. and again I havent checked the code nor tried to clear it yet.. but my question is.. is there a step by step write up on how to fix the problem? I like doing things myself and would rather do it myself than have to take it to a shop.. Thanks in advance!!
There is more than likely a how-to to fix whatever issue you may on here. But you're gonna have to find out what's causing it first.
If you have some mechanical skills there's a how-to in the stickies that shows how you can extract the code directly from the ecu... Or you can go to your local autozone and they can tell you for free lol

you need to fin out what code it is. I'm guessing it's for the reverse position switch though.
Try this, put your keys in the ignition, turn but don't start, make sure handbrake is all the way up, put car in reverse and hop out and see if your reverse lights work.
I knew a guy that had done the auto to manual swap and that was his problem

I'm surprised no one has made a harness to connect the manual trans position switch to the Park/Neutral connector. Also, to clear all codes you will need to replace the auto ECU with a manual trans ECU.
Try these posts, see if anything will help.

This guy may have done the mechanical parts correctly, but electronically the car still thinks it is an auto. No reverse lights, no clutch safety to start it, the car has no idea that your swapping gears instead of it. Definitely read through those suggested threads word for word suggested above
This is not such a bad thing. I modded my stock 5spd max so that I don't have to press the clutch or worry about the clutch interlock relay or the theft warning system working.
Manual transmission cars were built without clutch interlock systems for 80+ years. It wasn't until the '80s that the government thought they needed to protect us from starting in gear.
