AMB button (or maybe Temp Ctrl button) switch?

I'm trying to switch an AMB button from a '99 climate control unit onto a '98 climate control for my '98 car. Not only would I like the AMB feature, but my '98 faceplate is unusable, I need to use the '99 and that one is already cut for the factory AMB. I would just switch the units, but the '99 has some serious wear on the buttons so I'd much prefer to just move the AMB button to the '98 unit. Plus, the '98 has half the miles/hours on it. At the least, I'd need to be able to swap the '98 buttons to the '99 unit... see below.

I have the CC unit out. I removed the face plate from it by unclipping it. I managed to remove all the lower buttons including the AMB by unclipping the edges of them - except for the temp up/down and fan up/down buttons. I can't figure out how those are held in (?)

To swap the AMB button, I need to also remove the white part that the button sticks on that's inside the unit. It looks like I have to remove the inner plate behind all the buttons to get that out. To remove that inner plate, it looks like I have to get all the buttons off, and I can't seem to get the Temp control or the fan up/down buttons off - they doesn't seem to be attached like the others.

On other choice for me would be to swap the good looking buttons from the '98 to the '99 unit (and leave the AMB as is), but then I'd still need to get the Temp Control button off because it's really beat on the '99 unit.

So... do all the buttons and the inner plate have to come off to get the AMB inner piece off and do the swap? If so, how do I get the Temp (and fan) buttons off?

Thanks,

Switching the AMB button is too difficult IMO. I looked at it and realized it would just be easier to switch out the worn fascia and worn buttons on the 99 climate control. I've swapped all the buttons before. They are indeed a pain to do, and you have to be very careful not to break them.

Hmm... any idea how the temp button comes off? That one pivots and I can't seem to detach it from the pivot points. If I go with the "update the buttons on the '99 from the '98 and use that" option, I need to switch it... looks terrible.

The AMB button was only available for the 98 and 99 Maximas because they had the "newer" auto-climate control system.

That I am aware of and thought it can be accessed somehow while running. Difference with mine though is that I only get the first two temperature readings. No third for me but don't know which sensor to check. They say the one by the evap box but didn't see it.
