Go to dipyourcar.com, those who bad mouth it have no idea what they're talking about.

However, black is about the worst color you could do, it almost always looks like primer.

Take a look at some of the other colors, they should change your mind.

We went over this already. It wouldn't. BTW that dip has been on there for about 6 months.

If you want to try it, buy some xylene (xylol) from lowes/home depot (unless you're in CA). Start with a 60/40 ratio (dip/thinner). You'd probably be better off just buying a gallon of sprayable dip from that site.

Was there any reason you didn't just get a Pro Car Kit from DipYourCar?
thanks! yeah i saw videos and notices how the first coat was really light and the rest you have to really spray it on there. i still have maybe two three coats till imactually happy with it and thanks for the tip! yeah i waited for it to dry before i peeled the tape off and messed up a couple of edges but barley noticeable.

i went with the cans instead of the DYC kit beacuse i was impaient, i have an electric spray gun but never really used it.

Don't do Xylene! Nissans have a soft clear coat and plastic bumpers. Xylene will mess them up. Use Naptha instead. It dries a bit faster so if you're doing lines or stencils be aware of that. Thin to a 50/50 ratio to spray. It will also thin the pigment, so you'll have to either apply more coats, or buy pigment. I sometimes ask someone at ACE hardware or Sherwin Williams to squirt about 6oz in a cup for me. No homo.

The Dip at DYC is pre-thinned, but be aware, almost everything is on backorder right now.

It's fine. I've seen some awesome jobs coming from cans. Just take your time. Lay it on thick. Keep the cans in hot water between coats so that it atomizes the dip better. Another tip is to wipe it down with a microfiber and Meguires Spray Wax. It will smooth it out a bit and help it resist scratching. Wait a week before you do that though.

I'll take your word for it, but i've heard that xylene is not as bad as some other finners (i.e, MEK).

Good tip on the warm water! I'd get the dip nozzles as well if you wanted to spray some thick coats. Which spray wax, btw?

I've painted my bike plastics before but never a car, so I plan on doing a ton of research... I will probably just get Premixed from DYC but i wanted to see what my options were.

Might try some testing with the other thinners mixed before diving in..
anyone have any more examples on maximas?

Thanks for the info on Naptha, helped me find this...

Also debating about going with mixing blue and black plastidip or getting this

MEK is highly carcinogenic. Xylene is just too harsh for a Nissan clearcoat. It also tends to burn through plastics. It's a great thinner otherwise.

Quik Wax is what I use.

Im new to this maxima.org stuff so please be easy with the noob comments but im curious about this plastidipping biz!
You said:

a maxima will take 2 gallons (according to the plasti-dip site.)

How did you find this out does the website have a compatibility reference chart according to make nd model or was this just a guess according to the packages given (small car, medium sized car, large truck, etc) I have a dark green max was considering doing it black since i sold my 2004-2008 oem 18" max rims
heres some pics when I had the rims and how it is now which is blacked or "greened" out (It may not look it in the pics but trust I need a paintjob BAD!)

each can is 8.99

so you need 12 cans to do one gallon, that's 107.88 per gallon.

a maxima will take 2 gallons (according to the plasti-dip site.)

thats about 216 dollars for the paint...

4 dollars for the little handle thing that makes the cans easy to work with...

plasti-dip is really easy to spray on b/c it comes out thicker than typical paint, so it doesn't run very quickly, and a coat dries in about 25 minutes, it is super forgiving, I put 6 coats on my car and it has the finish I want...

and I was worried that it was too thin, so I tried a section of the hood to see if I could peel it off, and then re-applied the same 6 coats and see if it blended, It peeled fine, but I noticed that when I re-applied the 6 coats it was slightly shinier... I will see if the sun fades it and blends it in, but that is my only concern with it right now...

This is what i meant to do.. im learning!

I've been getting into plasti dipping lately, it's a fun hobby to get into regardless of how the car may look. I did my max what was supposed to be navy blue and it came out a sky blue so i peeled it all off, dipped the entire car gunmetal grey with the hood black. Although I usually stray away from matte colors, this combination looks extremely attractive on my max
